14 days on 14 days off. 12 hour shifts. Nightshift and field work are paid a premium. Wage is acceptable. CWB certification not really enforced

Cons

Unhealthy work environment. Poor leadership and workplace morale. Inconsistent policies and poor communication. No accommodations or transportation to site provided. Living out allowance is added to your income and taxed. Definitely an Old Boys Club mentality. Constant turnover, due to people leaving (both voluntarily and involuntarily). Culture of favoritism and self-preservation. Management-aligned peer pressure. Toxic internal competition. A culture that incentivized compliance over collaboration. Office politics took priority over teamwork.

Advice to Management

The company would benefit greatly from a comprehensive improvement of its workplace culture. Current leadership practices rooted in fear, intimidation, or hostility are counterproductive and undermine trust.

Implementing a genuine open-door policy—where employees feel safe and encouraged to contribute ideas—would allow management to tap into the strengths and insights of the workforce. Collaboration, not conflict, should be the norm.

Additionally, there is a significant disconnect between the company’s stated values—such as teamwork, safety, and a “family” atmosphere—and the actual day-to-day practices. For long-term success, leadership must align its actions with its messaging and hold itself to the same standards it expects of employees.

While no one is irreplaceable, people are not disposable. Viewing employees as expendable creates high turnover, low morale, and reputational damage. Respect, consistency, and accountability must be at the core of the company’s leadership philosophy if it hopes to retain talent and grow sustainably.

The management team is a joke. To compensate for there complete lack of Organization, Planning, Leadership, Trade pertinent knowledge or product knowledge they cut costs in every way possible to try and show the big bosses and clients that they are doing well. 

The lack of tooling, equipment, suitable coveralls, and functional shop infrastructure is sickening.

The air extraction system does not work, nor do the heaters in winter time. More often then not this causes water lines to burst and there is no running water for weeks at a time. The air quality is so poor crews are sick every shift. Hope you own your own Adflo welding helmet or you're in for a lot of respiratory problems as weldco will not buy any proper respiratory protection. Air lines, Gas Lines, Cables, Power sources and what few tools they have are in a horrible state of disrepair. They only just recently hired a proper maintenance man who is doing a great job but is so over whelmed with broken equipment and infrastructure that he can not keep up to the lack of prior proper maintenance and cheap management that wont spend money to fix things the way it should be 

The PPE supplied is the cheapest of the cheap and does not fit or protect the average worker adequately.

The Shop is so congested and cluttered with debris, tangled cables, parts and scrap steel, and way too many projects that you cannot move, hoist with cranes, operate forklift, or set up work area in a safe manner. There is rarely if ever time afforded to the crew to do a proper shop clean up or organize things to allow efficient work flow. 

There safety culture is basically, we'll do it if it doesn't cost money and fits into our busy schedule.... unless a client or OH&S is around then safety is there "number one goal"  

There is a Wealth of knowledge and experience on the shop floor. The Crews have highly Skilled and experienced welders and fabricators unfortunately management does not acknowledge the talent and skills or care about there opinions on how to do things to a higher quality standard, quicker, safer, or more efficient manner. 

Over all Job stability is non existent and job satisfaction is the same.
People don't quit bad jobs, they quit bad management.

I worked there for almost 3 years in that time seen a lot of things that is an all out right embarrassment to the industry. They blame cut backs on oil prices but yet the shop has so much work that we can't keep up but yet take our pension from us. So busy that 30 guys stop work to clean the shop and bathrooms there own plus managements for 4 hours every Sunday and charge it to the project we are on. So busy that they can't afford to fix the gear we are using. So busy sending us out to do field work with no tools and boring from the job site we are on. The president of weldco comes and tells us we are doing great that we a supporting all the other branchs of wbm hmmmmm and yet take more for us. He tells us we are making 3.5 million but can afford tools. This shop would be a great place but management sucks they only care about themselves. They promote only guys that will say yes Sean oh okay yes zac. Those to don't have a clue between the two of them. Now they took flights from the guys plus transportation to to camp from the airport and back. Take on but not both. Cab ride isn't cheap. But neither is fligjts. So now you have a shop that really has no incentives to work there. The turn over rate is so huge. And who ever posted those lies in the other reviews most be part of management cause there pay rates are lower than everyone else's with so much more work than the other shops. This place doesn't care about the men if they did they would have a safety officer on site hahaha good one they get fired fast. So many neer misses that could have resulted in death. It's weird how that HR doesn't do a thing about this hole. How higher management doesn't do anything. Fire guys before Xmas for no reason guys that have more experience than Sean and zac. 
BEEARE OF THIS PLACE. YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT

I understand that you may need a job but avoid this place if at all possible. Poor shop environment, poor air quality, poor lighting resulting in a very depressing work environment. Lack of equipment and equipment they have is mostly junk.  Poor maintenance on equipment. Lack of tools,  Can't provide workers with proper coveralls and lack of coveralls. No respect toward workers. Very dirty shop, and rest rooms are just not fit, Workers Be prepared to clean toilets and  that's anyone and everyone. Only thing good is the 14 off. Pay is OK but not that great. Benefits are poor. Safety is if it cost $ well you get the idea. Fire workers for no good reasons, very high turnover rate, Expect layoffs, and expect to be on contract so they don't have to pay workers benefits.  Over all its simply not a great place to work, makes workers feel very negative and unhappy,  very stressful. Treat workers very poorly. Look like the other reviews are from management lol all lies.

Avoid this place if you can mangement is absolutely terrible doesnt care about their workers and it's a very hostile and tense work environment. You could spend 3 hours trying to find the proper gear to do your job because its ither broken not there or you could have 5 guys sharing the same item on different jobs. There is no safety there and the air quality is the worst I've ever seen and guys are sick every set. The shop is currently trying to become unionized and it is probably the best thing that could ever happen for the workers on the floor. I have been there along time and we have lost alot of things such as camp bonuses flights travel to and from airport etc. Took the place 9 years to get hot water for the guys on the floor to wash their hands with and the heaters dont work in the shop in the winter and it's like a icebox in there

I work in weldco 7 years ago and I come back last month and the things are not change even a little bit... Management try to control the workers at the floor constantly.. like no music, no cellphones on floor, living exactly when the buser rings .. is just detrimental.. plus they want the things rigth away cutting edges everywhere no fallow procedures.. hard to watch when the customers come to see and they saw how was done... LOA max out and is pay in the bigger cheq then will be hard to see difference.. they say is full supply and they giving you a grinder and trysquare ... everything else you need to provide...I don't know no worth my time 

This place has such an opportunity to truly be the best in the area but unfortunately due to the little games that a couple of the managers (if you want to call them that) play, and the mindest that with very little you can do so much more (especially on the safety and hr side). Seen many great people come and go, and only the weak and desperate stay. If their corporate office would open their eyes and step in to see what has, is, and what is going to happen, I am sure changes would happen swiftly and this place would get better. 

Why would you put your own mental likeness at risk to work here? I left (my choice, not their's) in December of 2021 after close to 6 years and a couple of different positions. It should be a good place to work and build your career but the GM is so toxic and manipulative that you hate your job every day you drive to work, every day you are at work, and every day when you go home. I seen alot of really good people become hollow shells of themselves due to the GM.
Honestly, really consider all other options before you work here.

If you want to work at a facility that has no equipment for anyone. If you want to wander around for hours looking for equipment and tools. If you want to get more frustrated than you ever thought possible. This is the place for you. They have drills with no chucks ironworker with no parts a press with no tools a ghost band saw, the best! Track cutter you've seen. If your looking for a place where pay is okay stress is high and safty goes out the window for deadlines, make your way to whi baby.

I had the opportunity to work here for 3 years and 6 months, during which I learned a great deal about heavy equipment repair. The lead hand I worked with was incredibly supportive and taught me a lot, always guiding me along the way.

The office also provided me with the necessary safety tickets and training to work on CNRL sites, which became a solid stepping stone for my career move.

If you're looking to build your career, I would highly recommend this place.
