Anixter is a fortune 500 company with an old-school approach to business.  Hours are long, leadership often emails employees on weekends and is not respectful of employees' personal lives, and there is little flexibility within roles.

Some locations have unionized warehouse/operations, which places the business at a significant disadvantage vs. competitors, who operate faster, more efficiently, and attract higher performing staff.

There is a wide discrepancy in compensation even within the same role; do not expect to earn more as a high-performing newcomer - high pay is reserved for the 'old guard' and it feels like a bit of an old boys club.

Note that they're moving to an open office concept corporately, so that will be another negative in future (unless you enjoy feeling like an underpaid foreign worker in a call center).

This employer would be much more attractive if they had better managers and leadership - some managers are just awful, and wouldn't survive a month in a more professional environment.

I was a supervising lead making great pay and receiving wonderful benefits at Anixter. The downfall of this company is how they preach "we are a team", yet the immature operations manager blames every missed order on individuals, rather than team efforts. I was constantly defending my own actions, even though I worked safe, efficiently and ethically. I was blamed on multiple occasions instead of given constructive criticism. Every employee below upper management is treated with disrespect, and was expected the impossible, even though that company does not employ nearly enough staff to handle the amount of orders they receive daily. They are a greedy bunch and all about their own personal commissions and bonuses. I am glad I am gone from that place. Do not recommend this place at all, especially the Mississauga location.

The hardest part of the job is everyday would be very challenging as you will face different types of situation or customers with various personalities. All you need to do is to be patient and sophisticated to be part of solutions

The most enjoyable part of the job is everytime when we successfully made a issue solved, our manager will gave us a small gift like chocolate bar.

Great culture and great opportunities to grow within the company. Unfortunately they were bought out by Wesco and a majority of the executive team left or was forced out. With them left the culture as the Wesco team moved in. With the billions in debt and liability to shareholders the focus is on saving money, generating revenue, and satisfying shareholders. It went from a culture driven company to a bottom line management style of workplace. New management is eager to solidify their positions by being obsequious to their leaders and disregarding the experience and knowledge of legacy employees from Anixter.  A sad end to a great company with great people. If you've seen a Wesco warehouse then that is the calibre of leadership you will get as well. 

It is mostly desk-based job where you enter data and answer emails and phone calls. I learned to work hard and push for the information I need.

Management is tricky since they are ambiguous and tend to keep information to themselves. Very little is parceled out to the employees.

My co-workers are pleasant, yet some of them are difficult to deal with because of their stubborn character. They can even be insulting and insensitive at times.

The everyday monotony of the work and the secretive management is the hardest part to deal with. I do enjoy creating links between customers and forging relationships with some of my co-workers.

Great company and people to work with. The job requirements were great . Compensations was always going to be the main complain, however because of the varying dimensions of this job and  the interesting aspects of it it was worth all of my efforts and commitments. It was mainly a out of the office job most times , requiring a lot of travel to various locations. It provided me with the ability of share my own ideas, recommendation  and abilities at these locations. Its always a good feeling when your own ideas and recommendations are adopted by these stores and  helps to  save the company and protect both staff and customers. Whether it is an audit check or the regular inventory counts

In this job as in most accounting jobs accuracy and  efficiency is essential
Most of the tasks performed are repetive but different from day to day so it is necessary to perform each days tasks as unique 
This is  a new computer system so it is a work in progess getting to know various tasks as they become useful in accomplishing tasks
Coworkers and their input is most important to get the job done efficently and accurately, we are all part of a system which does not work well with the other doing its part
The most difficult part of the job   but necessary part of the job is ensuring that the customers complaints are being dealt with in a mutually  satisfactory way
Providing  the best service to both internal and external customers gives the satisfation of a job well done

Working at Wesco has taught me to be a better worker and how to work under pressure and not let it get to your head. A typical day at Wesco is like we have to pick and put away 600 lines a product to different branches all over the lower mainland. I've learned to be a better manager I've learned to be a better worker also a better teacher as well because I trained all the new people that come into the company I've also learned how to drive forklifts of all types. The hardest part of my job in my mind is when a branch orders too much of one product and the most enjoyable part of my job is all my co-workers and all the help I can get from them and how nice they all are.

Wesco company was an easy to follow job. Manual labour was standard, and learned the system as you went.

I got moved around a lot between each of the departments, which allowed me to get training in every department.

The only issue would be decision making by some of the management. When I wanted to move forward to front counter, I was not, despite all my experience, training, and knowledge of the product. I felt I deserved the position what with a clean record of punctuality, and taking no sick days.

I left because of this decision not to move me forward.

 It seems as though the Brockville location has had some serious operations and human resources issues.
No matter when they started as hiring through talent agents to hiring through directly, the same behaviors kept happening: no work, get off early everyday (2hrs on average)but still paid for 40 hours a week, told every morning meeting to most the associates to find something to do, but with no outbound orders 4 out of the 5 days that week it gets a little unmanageable. 
Simple terms: save some time if your looking for solid work ethic, full days and something to make every day go by a little quicker than open heart surgery with a cadaver.
