Its really unfortunate having such a bad work culture at Madero/Penner doors. The company is stuck in an old-school state of mind that is ultimately responsible for poor staff retention. The idea that everybody is just a number is not what this company needs. They claim to be some family run business with a family work feel. This is very untrue. 

Here are the companies biggest issues:

Communication - Its non existent. 

Under staffed - The staff have continued to beg for more help in the CSR dept but the owner refuses to hire more employees. This causes the feeling of being overworked and stressed. Not to mention, when people take holidays, people get sick, this leaves minimal employees to answer phones and answer emails. 

Management - Too much micro managing going on. People should really focus on staying in their lane, and let others do the job they were hired to do. Too much over stepping and micro managing stresses people out.  There is a clear line in the sand when it comes to the common staff vs management. The lack of respect and understanding is terrible. The owners have 0 idea what really goes on with the common folk. 

Raises - don't even think about a raise. The warehouse people, the people who sweat and bleed, the grunts of the company are treated as such. They're the backbone of the company but treated like trash. How about a work boot allowance at the minimum. 

Responsibility - The other issue is when problems arise, nobody wants to take responsibility or accountability in the matter. Everybody points fingers and nothing every gets fixed. Ive been there for many moons and weve been hearing the same ol thing for years.

This company could be a good company to work for but when you dont treat your loyal staff the way they should be, people leave. In the last 3 years, they've had 22 people in the Winnipeg branch come and go. People are tired of training potential staff to just have them go elsewhere. 

Appreciate your staff for holding down the fort. Build the company around the loyal and dedicated staff that you have, pay them accordingly, don't treat them like a number, a person that can be replaced with a drop of a dime because we all know that in this day and age, GOOD quality staff are hard to come by. 

They're a sinking ship. 

I've been with West Four for just about 9 years now and all I can say it that when you put the work in, there is great rewards and great opportunity for growth within the company and I love representing a company that started right here in Saskatchewan. I really enjoy working for a company that has great customers and builds great product. 

Now, I understand that out in the world  today many people want things quick (including changes at work). All I know is that when issues do arise here and it its brought forward, It is heard. It may not get addressed instantly, but the owners and management always take the concern and advice that is brought up and then make decisions that are best for not just an individual, but the entire team.

There is continued training available which is great for such a face paced constantly changing industry. 

  

This company portrays a family values type company but everything written is due to their marketing team. 
I have never been so poorly managed and by an estimating department, who typically know how to handle and micro manage estimating activities. 
I had no direction on any scheduling. I literally felt threatened by what turned out to be a miscommunication. I wasn’t supported in my role as a coordinator. I was given production duties completely outside of my role I was initially hired for. 
The rate of pay was below average. With the costs of all the essentials like fuel, food, living etc going up they low balled me and treated me like I was completely stupid. As a single parent I was losing on money by being employed with this company. The turn over rate for this company was high and their employment ratio to workload very unbalanced. 
I have never worked for a more unmanaged company than this one. 

Could be a great company. There are some really nice people for sure. It is family owned and acts like that. Management team is really just the owners. They have managers but decisions just seem to be based on what the owners want especially the lady who is in charge. It seems only her ideas matter because your manager always has to get back to you when you ask something.
There seems to be no trust for the employees. No one knows what is happening until it does. All employees have to use a timeclock even if they aren't paid by the hour. Ideas have to go through a lot of people so it moves slow.
It is hard to say if pay is fair. They don't share any rates for jobs so you only know what you make. In talking with others they seem pretty low to other places. No wage changes I know of for increased costs of everything. Have never heard of bonus for anyone but I guess some higher ups probably do.

Probably the worst company I have ever worked for. I would rather stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork than ever go back.
If you love poor management, drama, and being belittled with a stressful workload then this is the place for you. The wage they offer is comical to say the least. Unless your upper management, you mean absolutely nothing to this company. Although, I will give my thanks to this company. Thank you for showing me what kind of workplace/management I would never work for again and thank you for helping me realize that my skills and knowledge prove that my self worth goes beyond anything this company could ever offer. I am now living my best life making a much more considerable amount of money with half of the stress. For those out there considering taking one of their pitiful offers, my best advise to you is...run...

I have been with the company for coming up on 10 years. It is a challenging work environment but a very rewarding one that is made easier and more enjoyable with the great colleagues in my building along with the ones in the other branches. The challenges to improve processes and delivery of goods is what draws me back everyday. One of the many positive things I have witnessed over my time is the promotion of employees from within. The ownership is also very supportive and approachable with any concerns or feedback. There is a lot of great leadership at ownership and management levels across the various companies and branches. 

I was able to advance from a warehouse position to a senior sales position over time. They are a large company with a small business culture. Whether working within your local branch each day or working with the staff in other locations, you are always dealing with others who want you to succeed. They will train you, or offer industry training courses to ensure that in your area of work you are an expert. 
The business West Four is in requires training, and learning on the job. If are willing to learn, and enjoy new challenges you will have many opportunities.
A typical work day for a salesperson is active and busy. Definitely a good environment for those who like to help customers and learn continually.


Pros - production/warehouse employees are kind and welcoming

Cons - work order lists are made by people who do not understand how production works. Hard to figure out what is supposed to be done
         - lack of respect for personal life. Often scheduled to do out of province installs for weeks on end without asking employees if they are available
         - cluttered unorganized and overall all over the place. The woodshop is used as the storage for the warehouse half the time leaving no room to work
         - machines in the woodshop break all the time and never get fixed, making it impossible to complete orders
         -no mean of progression or raises with low pay compared to similar areas of work

What is the best part of working at the company?
The company's working environment is pleasant and the way the management of the company deals with the workers regarding safety matters is being followed. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
So far in my 8 months of working in this company as a warehouse order picker, I have never experienced stressful moments here as I experienced at my previous company.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture in the warehouse where I am currently working are just suitable for working.

I think one of the most impressive parts of the company is opportunity to grow within the organization, they have a strong focus on the growth of the company and its employees. It’s a very high paced place to work that offers challenges every day that will leave you with a true sense of satisfaction at the end of each work day.
