West Parry Sound Health Centre

Progressive department with multiple surgical directions, general, orthopedic, urology, dental and endoscopy. The nursing staff rotates from OR's to recovery room, endoscopy and day surgery. Start at 07:45 to 15:45, some 10-18:00 RR and a call rotation. Staff all work together for the patients. Hardest part of the job can be the call, with long, long hours with only two staff who run the OR's and recovery room, cleaning and day surgery. Would be nice to work with three nurses in a room as a standard practice. I get enjoyment from helping an individual get well. I enjoy the endoscope room. Have excellent IV skills.

Not enough employees to work therefore everyone is overworked or nurses are brought in through agency and they don’t know our procedures

Ok. As long as you steer clear of bosses favourite and the bullies 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful & tiring. 12 hour shifts

All of the staff that I met in my time at WPSHC were absolutely amazing, they take pride in being a team focused environment. They are also very active in community involvement activities. The administrative staff were all so lovely and welcoming, overall it felt like a welcoming, safe, enjoyable place to work. The Human Resources staff were the absolute best people I have ever worked with, they are all so talented in their roles and do their best to ensure that the staff all have what they need. 

The hospital is ALWAYS short of staff…staff are stressed and overworked, not getting enough time off.  Some staff have not been allowed to take holidays, as not enough people would be on staff.  The management is putting the Parry Sound Area at risk!!   
Management tries to gloss over the shortages, yet they are always hiring and portraying to the community that everything is OK.  

Over all very happy with working at the Health Center ( Hospital). Though, under paid in this community compared to others, considering the cost of living. Overall Management is great but there is always one rotten apple no matter where you work! 
Lots of room for advancement, great benefits and pension plan. Pension plan is with HOOP, Pension plans starts on day one. Benefits start with a full-time permanent position. 

This hospital appears to be quite the friendly location in interviews but the reality sets in when you get to the work place. Workers raise concerns and get brushed aside. Supervisors are often unnecessarily rude or condescending towards staff. The staff nurses are wonderful to work with, but the rest just isn’t worth the effort. 

I had to quit because I didn’t have reliable child care. I really like this job and it was one of the best jobs you can get in parry sound. You will never get experience like that and I know how to sanitize and still know how to do beds. 

While things started off wonderful with a great working environment, eventually the emphasis on bureaucracy over humanity arose. To them it was more important that their bureaucracy was preserved over how workers went above and beyond for the clients. 

Nurse, worked in several departments over the years. Management is over paid and is of no help to “workers”. Explains why most are severely obese. Co-workers can not be trusted for the most part. There are a few good ones. It’s the truth. Track record of hiring disgraced  Chief of Surgery’s. Not recommended. 

Good wage, stressful environment. RN based hospital. No room to advance as an Rpn. Great salary and some great staff. Needs more support for patients. Over worked hospital for a small community.
