Westburne

During my time with Westburne in Winnipeg it was clear that the company thrives on creating a healthy and positive work environment that promotes success. The leadership team is enthusiastic about nurturing the success of the individual while also supporting the innovation that comes with team collaboration. My direct manager helped me to maintain motivation by investing the time to ensure all my needs were met and I felt supported. Westburne also dedicates endless resources to promote career development with training by means of self-study, manufacturer training (which can include trips), and programs that again promote internal collaboration. I personally had the privilege of being part of a mentorship program and learned so much about myself personally and professionally. The focus was always on my strengths rather than weaknesses and this made a huge difference for me. Cannot say enough good things about the company and the Notre Dame branch in Winnipeg specifically, they really set themselves apart. 

Nothing will be freely handed to you but alot of room for advancement and more than fair compensation. IF
you can tolerate many many  layers of mostly checked out spreadsheet managers , who tend to add more/change duties weekly with mostly impossible timelines. The employees at a branch level are fantastic and suceed in spite of managements issues,resistance to change and lack of empathy to customers and employees needs.

Overall not that bad , I lasted almost 10 years
Feels like a farm team at times,alot of training and development but not great at retaining true talent long term

I enjoy working with the people I do. There are only a few of us in the branch so we all know each other well and work good together.
A typical day for me is coming in and opening the branch. Completing the cash sales from the day before, replying to any emails and voicemails I have. Then move on to the cycle count for the day, and from there deal with counter and telephone sales and quotations.
The hardest part of my job would be some product knowledge. This is for the Allen Bradley line we carry of motor control. I learn as I go with this material, but have been waiting for a class to take through Westburne to gain more knowledge so I would be able to help and provide more solutions to the customer.
I enjoy working with the people I do and working in a fast paced, competitive environment.

Clicky and if you’re a smoker you get extra breaks as some of the office and warehouse staff like to take extra breaks to smoke while others make up work and push till exhausting themselves. There really isn’t any rewards for hard work, they expect so much for little pay for the requirements needed there. The management doesn’t listen to any concerns a person has, don’t care if you’re sick or not.. there are slackers that shouldn’t even be employed there and they have joked about it that they slack and management does nothing about it. So if you smoke or vape this is the ideal job for you as you get extra breaks to slack. 

Decent company overall. Some issues as an outside rep you are judged on how much money of your own pocket you spend on your customer. Pressure is placed on reps to get projects but contractors have finally say. Work advancement  is based on a popularity contest vs abilities. If you come with new ideas and new approaches it’s not taken into account. 

Old school mentality. Think hard about it unless you have deep pockets be ready to lose money trying to get customers and management to like you. 

The opportunity for a good career and to achieve your career goals can be had here. I thoroughly enjoyed working for Westburne. Be prepared for steady and fast paced days. Most of the employees worked hard to win jobs (with the exception of a few internally) and showed commitment to finishing the job from start to finish. There are a few employees that don't have the desire to achieve goals and improve within the branch but I would say 98% of the people from all levels and branches worked hard everyday. 

I worked in several departments from order picking, receiving and VMI. A typical day  was pick up the the customer order sheet, go to the location and  pull the quantity of the item ordered. Input all issues into the computer and print paperwork and shipping labels. I would then box, skid and wrap items and send to shipping department. 
The workplace culture is good. most people get along with everyone, however the job can be stressful. 
The hardest part about the VMI department was the tight deadlines to get the product to the customer and the constant rushes that had to get out right away.
The most enjoyable part of the jobs was working with some really good people and always busy.

The management team is very professional, supportive, and approachable. They encourage open communication and are always willing to guide employees when needed. There is a strong focus on teamwork, and employees feel valued for their contributions. The company provides excellent opportunities for professional growth, skill development, and career advancement. Training and learning are encouraged, which helps employees improve and grow within their roles.

The work environment is healthy, positive, and respectful. Efforts and achievements are appreciated, which creates high motivation and job satisfaction. The overall work culture promotes work–life balance and fosters a sense of belonging among employees.

You should be comfortable with weekly meetings (sometimes more often) and told of the pressures to perform from 3 to 4 levels of management, while taking 30 to 40% of your day to perform administrative tasks. You will also need to train on products for about 10 to 15% of your day ... every day. This will leave you with just enough time to walk through the doors of 3 to 4 customers per day for a quick waste of their time.

I had a great team and we put the Vaughan Branch back on the map, exceeding sales numbers from years gone by, plus we had a one shot audit for the first time in recent history on inventory and cleaned up the warehouse to make our branch experience easy and ready to serve!
My time at the branch was long days but I felt I was going to be squeezed out as we were going to merge to branch into one. So I had an opportunity come my way that I took. Turned out to be a mistake and would like to come back!
