Western Electric

One of the better electrical company to work for. Most sites the material is ordered ahead of time and when you need it it is available. Other sites not so much. If you work anymore than 8 hrs. they pay overtime where smoother companies work on a 44 hr. work week.

lack of preplanning on site ,spent most of my time redoing others work,due to daily changes as supervision realized they had missed part of task in regard to how many cables, not realizing where things were going or what might be in way of runs. supervision does not look at workers as people, not uncommon to hear people been yelled at.

Western has a culture where they like to complete projects with the majority of the workforce comprised of new hires and apprentices. Skilled Journeymen are often viewed as too expensive to keep around.

was only around for two months but it seemed really unorganized and almost hectic sometimes. The company was in a stand off with the mall on how to move and transport tools and materials around without being seen and not much was happening

when working at western we were in the new Stantec tower. it was a new experience working in one of the taller towers in Edmonton. Lots of commercial work on the tower and some residental.
 it was a good job to be on.

A good company that will keep you busy if you are a consistent good quality worker. Upper management is a bit of a boys club and there is a bit of a glass ceiling because of it.

Nepotism is common in this company

Pay is average for Calgary, benefits are good. journeyman and forman are poor at communicating what they actually want. free thinking is not promoted, tote the company line or be fired.

I feel like I wasted 3 years of my life at western. I didnt feel respected and was treated like a thing. The journeymen didn't bother teaching apprentices anything and just yelled at them. 

Western employed me as a third year with only residential experience. Worked with arguably some of the best apprentices and journeyman to date that I have met. Learned the bulk of my commercial work through employment with them.

would work here again, not a bad place to work.  Some sites are better than others, but there's definitely worse places to work out there.  kept us busy as best they could when it was slow,  ran us like dogs when it was busy.
