From my experience, the overall environment at Westhills is nothing short of toxic and unsupportive. There has been a constant turnover of staff, particularly in management roles, which speaks volumes about the organization's leadership.  From what I saw, 8-10 people in management positions left the company in a short time. There were situations where I required assistance and asked for it, but was left to fend for myself, with little to no support from management. It was not uncommon for managers to be subjected to verbal abuse in meetings, creating a hostile work atmosphere.

The executive director's frequent changes in operational procedures contribute to confusion and frustration among staff. Just when you've adapted to one way of doing things, it's abruptly changed without warning. Unfortunately, more emphasis is placed on appearances rather than the actual care of residents, which is deeply concerning.

Disturbingly, I observed abusive behavior; that was not only tolerated but swept under the rug, fostering a culture where mistreatment is normalized. The mantra of "we are a family" is used to justify the acceptance of such behavior. The current administrator exhibits controlling tendencies and frequently demeans and disrespects staff members. 

In summary, my experience at Westhills was awful, primarily due to its management and this is regrettable because I enjoyed working with the residents and other front-line staff; the residents are genuinely lovely individuals and they ultimately suffer as a result of the overall work culture. When management is toxic, it trickles down to middle managers and front-line staff. 

My recommendation is to proceed with extreme caution if considering employment here.



1) Staffing is substandard. In general, majority of staff are amazing and hard working.
But there is a specific group of individuals (from different departments) consist of their own race who constantly create pointless drama and lies. They possess immeasurable talent of sucking up to families and management.
These problematic people are rarely seen working and have enormous amount of time to gossip, tattle, and gash their co-workers behind their back.
These people don't get penalized for their actions because union protect them.
Whilst, other staff (of colour) who are working their hardest undergo most scrutiny and mistreatment.

2) Management is the source of most concerns
Continues to hire new managers, nurses, staff who are incompetent on accomplishing their designated jobs.
New manager on specific unit does not pay attention to the needs of the residents and staff of the unit. Neglects the ongoing concerns that staff bring forward and pays more attention in making herself look good in front of families and management.
Hateful work environment is being promoted as she put her collegueas in inconvenience when she does not benefit from them.

3)There are a number of Registered Nurses who just come to work to collect paychecks. Do not contribute anything at all. Puts more work on other nurses that already slaving themselves from all the workload management hand over to them.

Management proceed to turn a blind eye to these ongoing issues and ask why the whole workplace is in shambles.

Residents and staff continue to suffer as a result of continuing problems mentioned above.

Firstly, this place has extreme toxic work culture that results in workplace “illnesses,” such as lack of cohesion among teams, increased absences and tardiness, lower productivity and high staff turnover.

Managers don't follow any sort of core values. They don't hold all employees accountable to the same set of standards. Managers put so much pressure on the nursing floor staff while other departments don't put their fair share of responsibilities to achieve optimum goal which is the overall quality improvement of the home.

RPNS are severely undervalued and unappreciated. The entire place is being run by RNs who are getting paid higher than usual LTC salary range despite of their lack of experience or knowledge. 
Majority of nursing staff are from agency who don't care about providing overall quality of nursing care. 
There’s constant dysfunction and confusion. Nobody is clear on their roles or responsibilities.

 Vacation and lieu days are being denied due to staff shortage. This place do not care about staff's overall well being. 
They do not recognize employees stellar performance or hard work. Provide no appreciation or any incentives. 

Offers no promotion from within. All the new hires are from outside the company, especially at a management and leadership level, only sending the message that current employees either don’t matter or they’re not good enough to be promoted.



This is a review of Westhills Care Centre, where I have worked for two years. I've encountered both dedicated and unmotivated colleagues. A key issue is the lack of effective teamwork, primarily due to some individuals unwilling to improve their performance. They recognize their lack of contribution but fail to change. Despite staff members consistently reporting these concerns in hopes of improving the unit's dynamics, management has not taken action to address the situation.

Management has claimed that improvements have been made since the beginning, which is somewhat true, but the core issue remains. The ongoing hiring of individuals who are both incompetent and unmotivated continues to negatively impact resident care.

Recent reviews suggest that negative feedback comes from disgruntled employees. However, these employees are the ones dealing with daily challenges, while management is often unaware of what actually occurs on the floor at all hours. It is easy for management to dismiss concerns without fully understanding the situation faced by staff.

I believe the one-star reviews are a true representation of the workplace environment at Westhills, rather than the optimistic view management presents. If you're thinking about applying here, do so with caution. The stress of the job may lead you to look for another position.

As a member of the corporate team supporting Westhills Care Centre, I’ve had the opportunity to witness firsthand the growth and transformation this home has gone through since opening in 2022. Like any new healthcare facility, there were natural growing pains and staffing challenges in the early stages. However, the dedication of the leadership team has truly made a difference over time.
The current group of managers and leads are hardworking, resident-focused, and committed to supporting their teams. What stands out now is the strong emphasis on collaboration, continuous improvement, and creating a positive environment for both staff and residents.
Corporate has invested in additional supports for nursing, quality, and allied health—providing the entire home, from administrators to frontline staff, with guidance from experienced professionals. This added support has helped stabilize the home and maintain a high standard of care for residents.
While no workplace is perfect, it's important to remember that employee reviews online often reflect difficult moments rather than the day-to-day reality for the many satisfied staff who don’t often share their positive experiences. Westhills has come a long way, and I genuinely believe in the direction it’s heading.

I strongly advise against considering employment at this organization.

Based on my personal experience, the management, particularly the upper management team, is notably unproductive and unsupportive. Instances of management engaging in pastimes while in work hours, such as watching TV on their cell phones instead of providing support, are not uncommon. Furthermore, certain members of the upper management team including the Executive Director exhibit disrespectful and unprofessional behavior, including making inappropriate comments, and yelling at employees. Their demeanour lacks respect and decency, creating a negative and toxic atmosphere. 

The high turnover rate within the organization is concerning, and addressing incidents or concerns often leads to dismissive responses, cover-ups, or even being reprimanded for raising issues.

Despite the challenges, the positive aspects of working at Westhills include the residents and dedicated  employees ranging from nurses to maintenance who genuinely care for their work and the individuals they help.

I made the decision to leave due to the toxic work environment that significantly impacted my well-being. I felt unsupported in addressing experiences and feared potential repercussions for speaking out on the awful things that happened here. 

STAY AWAY. 

Staff constantly experience workplace stress and burn out from poor organization, a lack of management support, and work pressure.

With lack of to no permanent staff working on the floor, it can easily contribute unsafe working conditions because of the increased demand on the staff who are working. Lots of agency staff working who don't hold accountability to what they do. They come in to work and leave. They don't care if they missed anything or completed everything they had to do. 

Management are not looking out for everyone's best interest at heart and only care about profits. Staff do not expect to be thanked for every task that they perform, but they do want to be seen as valuable members of the healthcare team.

There are a lot of "managers" with different titles yet offer ineffective management and leadership to the rest of the team. Staff are not even sure who to report to as one manager has to check with another manager before you even get an answer or resolution. 
Root cause of major confusion when it comes to problems and issues not being addressed properly or on a timely manner. 



Management does not care about their employees. 

Each unit has about 30 residents. If you have at least 6 PSWs, you'll have an okay shift. However, they keep admitting new people to the facility even though they do NOT have the resources or employees to support the home. So, there are some days (e.g., weekends) where there's only 2 or 3 PSWs in a shift, which is a nightmare.

The home does reach out to agencies to minimize the staffing shortage, but they (A) have a little to no experience working as a PSW; (B) refuse to help; or (C) don't show up for their shift. 

The nurses at the home are either extremely helpful or extremely lazy. There's no in-between. I understand that they're busy, but we are too. For example, if a resident's chair alarm is going off because they're trying to stand, some will try stop them OR search for a PSW instead of correcting the situation themselves because "they're busy." 

Also, almost everyone is PT, but if you don't set boundaries, you'll be scheduled to work one-shift less from FT hours. If you can, ask for casual because you can make your own schedule.

Honestly, avoid this place. I've only been working here for a couple of months, but I'm already burnt-out and looking for a new job.

So many managers with different job titles tell you different answers for simple questions.
You get no straight answers unless it has been clarified by atleast 4 managers and you end up with unclear resolution to the problem.
Floor staff don't get any support when shifts get busy but instead more tasks and responsibilities while there's atleast 7+ registered staff who are all capable of helping out. 
And then you get questioned why certain things are not completed or done correctly. 
Workload is already too heavy, resident needs are demanding yet these managers chase you for the things you have missed or forgotten to complete. 
Rules you know one day, already changed by the time you come back for your next shift. And it is your fault for not knowing, although it has not been conveyed to you at any point.
This type of workplace will worn and stress you 
out and they dont care.
The only good thing about this place is, the floor staff are fun and amazing to work with. 



Nursing department gains very little amount of support from other departments. 
Nursing staff are the front line workers which means always the ones subjected to receiving all the aggression and complaints directly from upset residents and families. 
When families and residents  delivers dietary and recreation  related concerns, majority of the time they are not addressed and elucidate.
Certain Recreation staff gets into everyone's business creating drama and hostile environment.  Always showing curiosity in other staff's  affairs regardless of department and causing unnecessary controversy. The intrusiveness caused majority of staff to develop  anxiety and fear of being watched when working. Scared of getting in trouble for the littlest things. 
In summary, there is no teamwork between  each departments in this facility. 
No trust and support between each other. Staff will always turn on each others backs.
