Westower values safety above all else. This is true amongst management, support staff, and field workers. Risks are not taken, and the safer method is always chosen over the faster method. Minor and major injuries are rare in this company.

The in-house training is adequate but don't expect anything advanced. Tower riggers don't need any experience to join, all the basics will be taught by competent employees.

Salaries have stagnated in recent years, but field workers can make a living by pocketing excess LOA. 

Work-life balance does not exist for field workers. The job demands lots of travel, for extended durations (3+ weeks are very common). Schedule is posted on Friday every week for the following week, giving 3 days of notice for travel for an uncertain duration. Local work is available but the low salary is unappealing without the travel pay. Don't expect to make appointments or plans without booking days off entirely.

This is a good job for someone without friends or family who wants to earn lots of cash with no prior experience.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great company and even better people. If you are working in the field, they are very good at supporting you. Great benefits and the pay is very good.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being away from home can be hard but they make it worth your while. You get to see some incredible places across Canada. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great! They really do value their employees. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On the road the days can be long but if you are the kind of person to get satisfaction from completing projects, this is a fun and rewarding company.

Unless you have an office, shop, or yard position, expect to do a fair amount of traveling. That shouldn't come as a surprise since communication towers exist everywhere there is cell service and even places that don't. In the winter, the vast majority of jobs were within an hour or so of Surrey so I was able to come back home at the end of every day. In the summer that was not always the case and I would sometimes be on the road for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. There was never a shortage of work and I always got at least my 40 hours.

What is the best part of working at the company?

They were very unorganized and seemed very inexperienced, lack of knowledge and communication was poor. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with co workers that would come to work smelling like alcohol on the daily.  Very nervous when working with inexperienced employees. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very poor performance, terrible communication between lead hands a project management. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Go to site, and wait for instructions from people who don’t even know what the SOW is.

In all honesty I absolutely loved this place. I drove nearly a hour each way to be a part of it and don't regret anything about working there. Hours could be tough as there was mandatory overtime and only one shift, so if you didn't want to work early you definitely had to put in every Saturday to get there. Management was great and truly did have a open door policy.
The place was left in a mess and new management came in. It took awhile but from what I hear things are back to being organized.

The pay is good, but the hours are long and the conditions can be tough.  Working on the road constantly can be a struggle.  While there, I felt like management listened to the concerns of its employees.  Because of the conditions there is regular turnover and there are lots of opportunities to gain skills and advancement for those who work hard and are able to stick it out.

There really was no such thing as a typical day.

The upside of travelling is that you get to see parts of the country that many people dont.

Westower was a very good experience for me to not only see amazing places in our great country but also to learn new skills including metal work skills ropes, rigging, and building towers .  learning to follow blueprints and job site sketches. management was great to work with as well as all the office staff. hardest part of the job is defiantly the winter months  where a lot of people end up quitting after spending one winter season on towers.   the most enjoyable part of the job for me was just how challenging the job was   physically and metally.

Unique job as ECO repair technician,  every day is different.

Can be very challenging,  good problem solving required.  Troubleshooting fiber/power and RF issues for multiple technologies from multiple manufacturers for multiple carriers!

Expect some travel if working in the field.  Roughly 1 night a week away on ECO, probably gone monday to Friday on build crews.

ECO on call rotation is terrible.  50% of your life on call.  Every other week, all week! 24/7.

I really enjoy WesTower, I love the people I work with and the customers i deal with. The people in the office are very welcoming, they are fun, outgoing and are always willing to lend a helping hand. The management is really great, they listen to you and try to help wherever they can by getting you training and lowering your workload if needed. WesTower is one of my favorite places I have worked.

Installation, integration, tests & startup of diverse telecommunication
equipements ( Ericsson).

This job required constant training and resourcefulness in addition to having to face the elements where ever the sites happened to be (mountain top - winter, middle of a field, in some whole in the basement of some building in the middle of a large city, in Government buildings - requiring security check (often), military base, etc..)
