Performed design and commissioning work. Had to often perform work of other departments due to lack of resources and over-sized management department.

Co-workers were very knowledgeable, and helpful, though cubicle culture and constant change of management meant teams were reshaped too often to offer a truly stable work environment.

Hardest part of the job was realizing the limited growth opportunities within the company in the technical departments such as engineering.

Most enjoyable part of the job was to work with talented individuals who had a passion for the technology, and having a somewhat flexible work environment.

It was really a nice time while working with Westport Innovation Inc in Testing and Verification department. Working with Westport Innovations in Verification Engineering Department during my 8 months co-op work term gave me a valuable experience in testing and verification. My primarily responsibility was to build test setup and perform core component testing for on board LNG tank system, customized for Diesel engine installed in long haul Volvo Truck.

Management needs training to be people oriented to inspiring their employees.

Exposure to challenging design problems were the highlight and the opportunity to contribute too.

The job required me to benchtest the pre-installation computer operating systems of diesel to LNG tank conversion systems for Cummins truck engines including tank pressure calibration within established  procedures to maintain quality control . Safety was paramount at all times due to the everpresent possibility of tank rupture. We all got laid off due to restructuring.

Work culture has changed and no longer attractive.  I can't say what the culture is like now, but when I left many of the people who had worked for the company from the early days were gone and numerous rounds of layoffs had taken a toll.  Morale at that time was not good.   I truly hope that things are better now, but I have not worked there since 2015.

I was lucky I got opportunity to work with westport and it inspired me to think about environment. Westport has one of the best engineering practices and procedures as far as I know. Interesting technology. Good people to work with. Lots of fun! Near to Fraser river. Best veggie Berger in near by cafeteria. I miss those days. I hope westport emerge once again so people get opportunities like me 😊 

Maintaining the test cell equipment, designing instrumentation and testing rigs, working on BIG trucks 8), calibration, etc...  It made for very interesting days when busy.  Great team in my group (maintenance, mostly), lots of very knowledgeable and friendly people.

Although the people were great and the work was good the threat of lay off was present from shortly after I started. Although there was no ill will, the reality is that the company is changing. Many old hands are no longer required. When the company finds its path forward it may provide stable employment again.

I enjoyed the development process of new cutting edge technology. 
There was constantly new challenges to over come. Test fixtures constantly needed maintenance and updates to cope with the ever advancing products.
 The nice mix between desk engineering and hands on engineering kept me motivated and provided an enjoyable work experience.

It s a world of mechanical engineers 
As many other companies HR is useless  use contractors to hire and don t bother while working internally 
The lay off process is brutal
Done in 5 minutes with no warning. No escalation to management
Big ambitions driven by VP 
Resources are disposable
