Westside Recreation Centre

As a university student, the job is very flexible. However, the upper management is very VERY lazy and does not take the time to get to know their employees. They are extremely old school and does not find the reason to advance in this everchanging society. For the past 5 years they have constantly lost members. They are resisting standardizing wages to with respect to the minimum wage and have been cutting hours rather than changing finances and monetary function.

You are expected to work hard, but a pleasant and fun work environment is encouraged. The customer service part has a lot of fine details that can be overwhelming at first but there is an amazing team that helps ensure that you know how to do things properly and are always very warm in helping out new and even more senior staff!

Westside is a fantastic place to work, and the management is top tier. While they are tight on budget, which limits them for positions available, I would never turn down an opportunity from them. The childrens programs run smoothly, and there is clear dedication from
management and other team members to the job. 

West Side was a great first job and allowed me to grow as a person and gain many friends to this day. I had to leave after a few years due to poor management and the fact that they are so desperate for staff, they have to hire 15 year old boys who play on their phones more than watch the pool

Westside recreation centre is an ok job. The pay is really low and they rarely give raises. I have only gotten a twenty five cent raise since working here for two years. Management is not the greatest either. They do not get involved as much as they are needed. The pool is a safe and fun pace to be.

Westside is a great employer for part-time work. They have scholarship opportunities and flexible schedules. It is great for post-secondary students. However, there isn't many opportunities to move within the organization once you are finished school.

You’ll work with a lot of people wich is good. The people you work with are fun and the patrons are pretty nice. The free membership is a nice feature because it’s a great facility. The pool has a lot of ridiculous rules to enforce.  The pay is terrible 

You can put in 200% effort and receive the same pay/treatment as people who barely even do the minimum work required. Although all staff is very friendly, it is discouraging to put so much effort into a job and not be compensated properly. 

One of the only positives working there is you can use the facility. A lot of people leave or get let go from their positions. Management in some departments can be very unhelpful and operate almost like a clique.

My experience at Westside was generally good however management sometimes was hesitant to answer questions, and sometimes camps were extremely busy. However, it did teach me good problem-solving skills when dealing with kids.
