Wild Renfrew

I worked in the kitchen at the Renfrew Pub for a little over a year and had a positive experience overall. 

There were quite a few problems however. My first summer I was put into a camper for my staff accommodation which I said I was okay with, but once moved in found the place infested with mould which made me and my roommate ill. We later discovered that everyone else in the trailers were experiencing the same issue. Lots of people complained but nothing was done about it. I was also told that my accommodation would have wifi to which it did not, nothing was done about that either when I complained to HR. My living situation was a complete mess that first summer, made much worse by our monthly rent being roughly $900. But since I decided to stay the winter I ended up in a nicer place once the summer staff all left. There are nice staff accomms but not enough to go around. If you come to work in the summertime, expect to live in a mouldy trailer with no hot water and subpar wifi. 

Another downside was the heavy workload dumped onto everyone. My first summer I was really looking forward to the activities and experiences I would have in my off time, but then quickly found myself in an understaffed and a relentless chaotically busy work environment. In the kitchen, we would work 10+ hour days on the regular and would barely take breaks because of how busy it got. Us kitchen boys could only afford to take one day off each week (some didn't have any) because if not the kitchen would be understaffed and whoever was working that day would get totally rocked. The workload became overwhelming at times and it can drain you of all your energy, whenever I wasn't working I was usually sleeping. For this reason, I didn't get to do much of the fun stuff I had in mind that summer. But through all the stress i ended up bonding with all of the boys at work and we felt like family by the end of the summer. 

The workload varies depending on which department you work in. If you work in housekeeping, you get a more reasonable 9-5 with much more room for downtime and socializing. If you choose the Pub then expect harder work and better pay. If you're coming to Renfrew to make some money, work at the pub. If you want to have some fun, try housekeeping or guest services jobs.

Overall, working at Wild Renfrew had it's ups and downs. But I've met some interesting people, collected some cool memories and have matured as a person due to this job. I would highly recommend this job to young adults looking for experience and growth.

I've been with Wild Renfrew as a line cook for over 3 years now. I applied to be a dishwasher but the need for cooks was so high that I got bumped to line cook instantly. Summers are crazy and the rush doesn't stop. But having an Oceanview right outside of work all the time makes it worth it. The people here are amazing and I couldn't ask to be working with better people. We are in the middle of nowhere so alot of things don't run as smoothly as it would in a city or more popular area but management still does a great job to do what they can. If you find yourself in a long term position get ready for the winter. It rains almost all the time and few new faces are seen in the dead of winter. Self Transportation is highly recommended but not nessicarly needed as long as you can catch a ride from other people to town and you are okay with solitude. Overall it is an amazing place with many interesting characters to meet. And the food is bomb. 😀

I have been working for Wild Renfrew as a housekeeper for almost a year now. As a returning staff member there are many things I can say about the housekeeping department and the entire company as a whole. 
Being a housekeeper isn’t always a ride in the park, especially in peak summer season. However, I can hands down say it is definitely the best department to be involved in. No matter the stress of a busy work day, we always make sure to find the time to laugh and sing and make the best of it. We are definitely the most open and inclusive team, taking everyone into our little family with open arms and 
we undeniably have the 
best managers running this side of the show.

Port Renfrew is a beautiful place and Wild Renfrew resort definitely embodies that, although the pub is a place I would definitely stay clear of. The only things that comes out of that place is BS and a great chicken burger. 

If you have experience in the hospitality industry steer clear of this place. The managers are all lazy and if you have experience or know more than you do they will push you out. For some reason they are very arrogant when they don’t know how to do the lowest job and let alone manage and run the department
Unfortunately it’s a very young crowd here, the staff all party and drink every night. So it’s pretty boring.
It’s a beautiful place but the people make it bad and push good people out.
It’s not worth it. The staff accommodations can be bad - $900 a month for a trailer and most of them have problems with mould etc.. 
I’d say avoid it. The managers and staff just make up drama, low pay, poor housing, lazy and inadequate managers with no experience. You won’t learn anything here

I just relocated to Port Renfrew to work in the Pub and it has so far been one of the best decisions of my life. The work environment is very positive and the teamwork between the support, management, kitchen, and servers is phenomenal. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly that it instantly feels like home. The pub can become very fast paced very quickly as it is sometimes one of the only restaurants open in town, however the teamwork that takes place makes it feel like fun. The views are breathtaking and it’s an opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Overall, Renfrew Pub is a fantastic place to work, and I recommend it to anyone seeking an adventure and home all in one. 

I worked for wild renfrew for four months and I really enjoyed my time there. I worked mostly in the housekeeping/guest services department. I really valued the team environment as I always felt supported and appreciated from coworkers and managers. Managers were always willing to help on busy days. Overall I enjoyed the work and the low stress environment. 

I lived in one of the cheapest staff housing options which was okay for short term but if you’re planning on staying longer than it’d definitely be worth it to pay a bit more for one of the middle options. 

Living in a remote town can be challenging but the people there definitely made it easier. Its a great place for personal and career growth. 

I am going into my 3rd summer of working for Wild Renfrew. It's a fairly new company so it has been fun to be a part of building it up. 
Port Renfrew is a tiny town that grows in the summer as the tourists and travelers come through to do the West Coast Trail, Juan de Fuca Trail, Pacific Marine Circle Route, explore botanical beach, or stay at the unique accommodations and enjoy the great food. I enjoy working with the fun and friendly management, and I love this beautiful location. I love my job where I search out local vendors to sell in the gift shops. There is also staff accommodation available.

It's a beautiful place to be, some of the staff accomodations should be condemned and aren't unfortunately. It depends what department you work for but housekeeping almost never gets full time hours and in the off season the staff in all departments really struggle with cutbacks on hours while still paying full rent and the cost of living in such an isolated environment, especially if they don't have a vehicle.

Housekeeping was a bit of a gong show only because we were so short staffed when I joined. My experience with the work and my work atmosphere was good, I enjoyed it, wasn’t overly difficult and I did like my coworkers. However the overall management was a bit crazy and sometimes disorganized. The only issue I had was with the pub and pub employees. It’s a very cliquey place and there was some slight bullying. Just beware that if you work housekeeping or guest services that eventually the people at the pub will turn on you and you will be outcastes.

I took the three day trip from my home town for this job, when I tell you it’s the best decision I have ever made anything short would be a lie. The gorgeous landscapes mixed with the wonderful people that so quickly make you feel more at home then your last, work is a fast pace well working machine that is a beautiful thing to watch operate. If you’re looking for the opportunity of a life time, friends to make and take along the way apply today for a non regrettable decision!!
