Winchester District Memorial Hospital

I was hired through a company called JobZone in Cornwall on a contract.
The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) was a very enjoyable work experience.
I was trusted with updating a communications list for the CEO. From funeral homes to religious leaders and the Board of Directors. I would communicate via email and phone with external businesses and individuals on behalf of the hospital to obtain such information. 
I learned how to communicate with individuals and how to get information not publically accessible.
The management and co-workers at the WDMH were extremely friendly and relaxed. I was treated with much respect and patience as I was learning an exorbitant amount of information quickly every day. 
The most difficult part of the job was sitting for long hours tying or making phone calls. The work itself was manageable and straightforward, but if I was able to go "to and from" departments daily to work off my physical energy then I would have been more able to focus on my work.

My day starts at 0900 and usually with a bang, I am the leader and often have many demands placed on me to support staff and physicians, this can be rather taxing in that I also have to provide patient care, I enjoy the challenge.  In this role I have learned to be quite flexible an amicable to change, I have also learned how to deal with staff through mentoring, guidance and conflict resolution.
I work quite closely with my current manager and I am often supported with educational opportunities and workshops, which help me grow both personally and professionally. The hardest part of my job often includes that lack of resources that are often need to care for patients and to support staff for their breaks, on the flipside I really enjoy working with people and also my co-workers. I enjoy this, because I have the ability to share knowledge and information and experience to both novice and expert nurses.

Was hired PT hoping to get Full-time, then watched as every experienced nurse in part-time was passed over and the positions were filled by new grads. All the experienced part-timers quit. Nepotism, favoritism was openly voiced by manager. Some of the FT shifted into other departments to get away from the increasingly oppressive atmosphere. Too many complaints to the union. Gave notice and no response or acknowledgment from HR or management.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
never wants to hire you full time permanent so your schedule does not lend itself to work life balance at all

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
it’s every floor for itself , seems like no comeradarie

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
very little shifts given in the area i just learned and therefore need to consolidate my knowledge

My day to day work is data entry and patient contact for post surgical follow up.

I work in collaboration with patients, medical record staff, surgeon office and booking staff to get the most up to date and accurate information. 

What I like most is that everyone from the volunteer to the management level are easy to approach and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Nothing very unethical place to work

Management promotes friends CEO and CFO both there over 10 years not advised

Unethical practices , ageism

Stressful everyday. Work unappreciated

The staff are the most caring, empathetic folks

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Short staffed frequently and the care coordinators aren't effective at their jobs

I did my 400 hours at Winchester Hospital and the staff was beyond amazing. They were always willing to teach and welcomed everyone with open arms. The relationships with one another, their patients, patients families, and doctors was also very professional and compassionate.

loved the job but due to cutbacks people had to go loved seeing the patients get help . staff all friendly  hardest part were seeing people stay for long periods ( long recovery time)

I thoroughly enjoy my role at WDMH.  My colleagues are like family. The cafeteria is a lovely gathering place at lunch time. Everyone is so friendly.  Lots of employee draws for prizes and events. Anyone hired at WDMH would be fortunate to work here.
