Being placed in a primary care setting was a great opportunity as it permitted me to see what steps take place, to prevent admittance, before admittance or after discharge to the hospital. Being apart of these stages permitted me to see the various tests, and the range of the result that would consider a individual at risk, or needing to be sent to the emergency at this time. I was also able to explore skills that I was not given the opportunity to in an acute care setting such as a hospital. Being placed in a primary care setting I was able to take vitals and do a general assessment on patients with various diagnoses.

At this placement, I learned how to prioritize care and time manage. All my co-workers were treated respectfully and as equals from one another. That really set the tone of the organization as it made my time there an enjoyable one!

The hardest part of my job was spending little time with the patients as the providers needed to do their assessments. However the most enjoyable part of the job was forming nurse-client relationships with the patients as they would return weeks later, as the WECHC is a primary care setting.

The work itself was meaningful and the services provided to clients were important and often life-changing. Supporting clients was the most rewarding part of the job.

However, the internal culture was disappointing. There was a clear focus on numbers over people, and little regard for the wellbeing of staff. I was called into a performance meeting led by a new manager who had only been in the role for about a month and had not taken the time to get to know me or my work. The concerns raised were vague, some based on misinformation, and I was never shown any proof despite asking. 

I was promised support that never materialized, and even after showing improvement in my numbers - with evidence to prove it-  I was terminated on the grounds that I "had not improved." The entire process felt targeted and planned, despite the organization not having any real reason to fire me.

This is an organization that promotes care on the outside but struggles to offer the same care internally to its staff.

Of the many employers I’ve worked with in my time, this has to have been the most dysfunctional I’ve ever had. Unfortunately the worst experience I’ve ever had in my whole career. Good wages and benefits but not worth it. Without exaggeration, I left traumatized. Isolating, toxic, and not safe. Good time off package, and though time off is widely encouraged I encountered paradoxical criticism when using it. Frequent, unreasonable changes to my schedule with less than 24hrs turnaround time. Constant lack of clarity. Office environment unsafe for clients, staff and the space was highly inappropriate if not impossible to hold appointments in. Job description was highly inaccurate, did not match my daily tasks at all. Lack of training and basic resources. I loved the clients. Approach with caution.

The culture here is toxic, I left due to a shifting dynamic in management, and the higher ups. They only care about numbers at the end of the day, and I've heard this recently from others who are still in the company. They set unrealistic expectations and micro-manage your day. 

If you like always being anxious and traumatized (how ironic for a health services agency), you will love it here. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I saw daily.  The biggest issue is they constantly changed policies, bosses, and it seems like people made up the rules as they went along.

Truly a company looking to include everyone in their work demographic. Very easy going about accessibility supports and encouraging employees to reach their full potential. Those looking to work here should have strong work/life boundaries as the work in hard to leave "at the office" and can easily lead to burn out. managers are careful to make sure employees are aware of this and help employees to establish healthy boundaries.

Employees are great and management isn't too hands on.  Overall clients are great and I feel safe at my job. Hoopp benefits, great time off package and management allows you to work fairly independently trusting in your skills. Hours are also good and work ok for having families 

This was an excellent learning expeience. Working with elderly clients in maintaining their health, or recovering it was truly inspirational. As well as working with homeless population, i felt very at ease at this position and enjoyed learning about the life journey of others.

Never before have I worked with a group of people who are so dedicated to helping people.  More red tape than I'm used to but standard for a government funded organization.

This was a volunteer position whereby I was on the Board of directors as well as Treasurer.  Very professional Board and Management and great services provided to clients.
