Windsor Plywood

There is Lots you can take away from working here, especially if your looking to become a carpenter! Windsor is a unique store, and has many niche products. Great for consumers and better for contacts looking to take advantage of there delivery process! Would not recommend as for full time employment! Outrages amount of responsible is put on employees at a non competitive rate! The pay structure is very askew and expect empty promises. Structurally speaking there is virtually no management at times can be good but for the most part i felt it hurt the culture of the company! It is up to the employee to figure out what tasks are to be completed! Expect to miss coffees and lunches as its consistently a bare bones crew. Staff is mostly friendly and can be helpful in most areas beside any tasks you'd be required to do! Peers are very friendly and take a real interest in your life and make the job much more bearable. That being said you'll be looked down upon and treated  poorly for miss-happenings that occur weather it be your fault or others! Id recommended this for a student or summer job! if your looking for full time work id recommend  this as last resort if possible! However be warned for a min wage job there is a robust amount more opportunity out that is much more reasonable structured! Current employees look overly miserable and/or given up on trying!

Store level management was good and accommodated as best they could but were limited by a remarkably stingy head office. Until you were with the company for years you anre  unpaid and forced to come in sick if you wanted to eat and pay your bills.

Expectation of a sales associate as well beyond the compensation plan that they offer. Sales are tracked and monitored and quotas assigned with no spiffs, no bonuses no commission not sure what the point of that is…..? 

Just leverage to make you hit your “target” nothing in it personally for the individual but certainly for management. Even if it’s small for sales associates, there should be some sort of benefit for achieving monthly goals. Windsor offered  absolutely nothing.

My observations of Head Office (Langley):
1. Groupthink: hard to make progressive change when management and long term employees engage in continual groupthink. 
2. Management: need to review employment law; worry more about their employees than the bottom line; upgrade their general mangement skills 
3. Very cheap on providing employees with standard working equipment (i.e. desks, computer monitors, office chairs). Many employees bring in their own upgrades.

There is a air of distrust given off by some managers that employees are "stealing" from the company be it time or supplies etc. 
HR dept. creates more drama than it should and pits co-workers against one another.

In all, I felt belittled and was talked down to from management on a consistent basis. Smile,  do your work and go home. No meaniful collaboration. So glad I've made the decision to leave Windsor. 

If you are considering a career change and contemplating a position at Windsor, I would advise caution. My personal experience with the organization highlighted a significant lack of management and transparency among employees. Additionally, the company's stability and treatment of employees may be concerning, as I encountered issues with unexpected layoffs shortly after hiring. Communication within the company is often unclear, with little to no straightforward sharing of information. Furthermore, the HR management seems disengaged from employee welfare, which is traditionally a core function of their role. Overall, my time at Windsor was less than satisfactory, and I believe potential candidates should be aware of these issues.

Windsor has been one of my more challenging jobs in the best way possible. At the Lethbridge store we are encouraged to work as a team in all things; sales, stocking, receiving, purchasing, customer service, and giving expert advice. It can be challenging in any job to work with a variety of personalities and characters, at Windsor Plywood those who are willing to participate in the team and support each other in all aspects of making the workplace better, for the customers and staff, that challenge is extremely rewarding. 
Excellent pay with regular raises and bonuses, are the icing on the cake of being able to work with products I love and am passionate about sharing with customers.

Windsor Plywood was a difficult company to work for because they have questionable business practice when it comes to contractors (alot of the time the contractors pay more per building material than is priced for retail)... that i found hard to deal with because an emplyee is always having a contractor complaining about price when these are the practices that head managemant want implemented... i did not enjoy that struggle

Learnt the importance of making a dollar. Had great management at the Airdrie location. First day got on forklift and my training was "practice on some pallets" and after that for the next three years I only had one error where I spilt a couple sheets of plywood. Next week we got a photo from Head Office where someone dropped and entire 50 layer bundle which went all over the yard. There were four people including myself that worked there so I was responsible for every aspect in the operation. Helped out in the shop, completed sales, operator, cleaning, inventory count and everything else that would happen at a warehouse.

A typical day at work was going to the back and unloading what had been delivered and get product ready to be delivered. And sometimes deliver them. I learned more about the density of wood, and what types of wood were usually used, why they were used, what made them good/bad. As well as wood substitutes, such as MDF(medium density fibreboard) or MDO(medium density overlay), my co-workers were easy to get a long with, never had any issues. The most challenging part of the job was probably driving the fork lift truck without being trained or actually knowing how to drive it. I enjoyed the information that I was able to get while being there.

If you're the kind of person who loves to tow the line, avoid innovation, get underpaid and navigate a den of snakes this job is probably for you. 

There are some~ great staff here but also a lot of uncertainty.

Here you will find managers that claim they will take requests to heart only to have already made up their minds and stonewall you a little bit later. Can't afford promised cost of living raises, but can afford a Las Vegas convention. Make no mistake, if you take pride in your work, you will not be here for a good time or a long time.

Great place to work! A typical day at Windsor Plywood was different each day also fun. I have learned a lot about indoor sales and about all the interior finishing for homes and business. The Management when I worked at Windsor Plywood was amazing to work for and with they tried to make your shift as fun as possible while still getting everything done. I myself was a supervisor here and I tried to contribute to this with my crew. I can't really say that there was a hard part to my job everything was pretty awesome there. In all honesty the most enjoyable part of my job was waking up in the morning and wanting to go in for work.
