Winmar Property Restoration Specialists

My typical day at work saw me emptying flooded homes of residents' affected possessions and storing them in a warehouse or sending them to our specialized cleaning facility. I would also remove in the maner best fit for the situation(sometimes carefully other times demolition depending on the damage already caused) affected drywall, cabinets, flooring etc. I would then rebuild everything that was taken out and make everything look like new once our remediation team was finished cleaning up the mess, which I sometimes helped with.
I learned alot about cabinetry, flooring and general rebuild procedures. There were alot of employees, most of which were good to work with. Some I found to be very lazy others just hard to get along with but it was generally a good work atmosphere.
I think that management could have improved on many levels. Most of the jobs were very chaotic and unorganized which was probably the most difficult part of the job. I also don't feel that the employees were being paid fairly for the work we were putting out.
The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to and learning how to rebuild nearly everything you could think of in a home.

When working with homeowners it can be really rewarding when they are very appreciative of the hard, dirty work you have done for them. The management team and estimators need to respect how hard the workers actually work everyday and be more organized in their delivery of the services to the homeowners and businesses. 
As a worker we get the brunt of the complaints of the company and that's not right. They should consider hiring estimator assistants so the estimators can deal with issues onsite more than dealing with paperwork deadlines.
Work is hot, dirty, and sometimes very foul odors. If you can't handle getting dirty not the job for you. Pay rate should take into consideration that your putting your health at risk exposing yourself to many toxins and cleaners. Safety is always something not to be taken lightly in this industry.
I really loved the challenges to try new things and opportunities to further myself in the company with the training courses unfortunately it only gets you so far.

My time at winmar was enjoyable work but when it came to the amount of work we were doing it almost made the job intolerable. Say goodbye to holidays with your family, say goodbye to time with your kids and say goodbye to weekend plans. The minimum work week is 50 hours but rarely do you ever end up doing those set hours, the office will expect you to stay late all the time. If you leave a job site early to be out the door in time you’re met with snarky remarks. I understand when your boss tells you to jump you ask how high but the expectations from the owner are near impossible. Upon hiring you’re told that you’ll be working an on call rotation; once a month you’ll be available 24 hours all week. After being hired it was more like every third week you’ll be on call, the average on call you’d be working 80 hours a week minimum and there WILL be weeks where you’re working 120+ hours and if you take time off due to exhaustion you’re met with a terrible attitude from the boss.

Working at the Penetang location was a very challenging experience. The owner frequently behaved unprofessionally, including raising their voice at staff often, which created a stressful and uncomfortable work environment. As a result, turnover is extremely high, and it’s easy to understand why.

Management practices were also poor—expectations were often unrealistic, support was limited, and most feedback given to staff was negative rather than constructive. Overall, the environment felt discouraging and unprofessional.

I would not recommend working at the Penetang location based on my experience.

Very disorganized company, unclear expectations resulting in bosses berating crew members in front of clients for their errors. Ego driven line of work with no growth potential. Minimum pay for extremely physically demanding job. Promised everything and nothing to show.   Don’t trust any verbal conversations and get everything in writing. Was hired under the pretence of health benefits, 4-6week on call rotation. 8 months in and no benefits with a 1 week on 1 week off on call schedule. If you have a family you will need to choose, kids or pay check. Horrible communication between management and ownership with the crew taking the fault. If you’re looking for a job that just sees you as a body and doesn’t hold any of their side of agreements this is a great place to work. If you’re looking for a career with growth potential , flexibility and work like balance. Run. Fast. 

I had many new learning experiences with this job and was continuously being trained. My co-workers were great and enjoyed working with everyone of them.
The hardest part of my job was seeing all the loss the families would experience do to floods, fires and even death. I learned to do my job and be there for the home owners when they needed me and helped to the best of my ability.
I enjoyed being able to return as much salvageable content to the home owners as I could and being able to return such important items that have been in their family for years.

Everyday I have worked there I have mainly been ripping out Drywall/Plaster and getting rid of mold after a flood in a clients basement. I also had to clean up all the Drywall and take it out to the side of the road for garbage to take. I have learned how to take apart Drywall and get rid of mold easily. I had a lot of Co-workers I was with in the past and most of them were nice and helped/train me as we went a long each day. The hardest part of the job would have to be ripping out drywall just because that's mainly the only thing you have to do except for the clean up part.

You’re better off somewhere else!!!
If you need a temporary position and willing to give a lot for very little in return then apply. 
This is not a place to advance and grow. No pension. No profit sharing (that was taken away) Mandatory on call week pays a bonus incentive to small to mention. Warning to others with family you won’t be on time for dinner and you won’t make ends meet. Raises are years in the making or continued false promises. The work environment is often belittling and morale is very low. Training is hit or miss not much from the management but most employees are helpful when working with them but generally miserable, who wouldn’t be?! Wish there was more positive things to say.

I really enjoyed my co-workers who had made the job bearable but the lack of care for safety and tooling is a bit of an issue. I felt as though there was a lack of training given the dangerous materials you could be working with. Communication between management was less than desirable as you could be sent in relatively blind. Supervisors could've been treated better in regards to salary as well as recognition, as this didn't show a promising future for lower-level employees. The benefits package provided is quite good, LOA  and accommodation for out of town work which was very nice. Overall needed work from a lower end employees perspective, but on my way out I know there were some reputable people coming to work there and I hope it's improving.

The typical work day involved general clerical and bookkeeping duties. I learned very quickly to multi-task and perform under high pressure situations. The management was not very involved in day-to-day operations and would place blame for errors on others without accepting fault. I enjoyed working with my fellow co-workers, they were friendly and very easy to get along with. The hardest part of my job was trying to deal with difficult situations with very little direction or acknowledgement of a job well done. I enjoyed being in a fast pace environment and maintaining an organized and productive work place.
