Winners and Homesense

1. A typical day at work:
A typical day at Winners was full of customers, their queries, returns and purchases. 


2. What I have learned:
I have learned the how to interact with customers - how to deal with a grieved customer, if he or she is upset with something. I have been very good in dealing with the customers on the floor and over the phone. Many of my regular customers, had known me with my name. 

3. Management:
There were altogether 01 store manager and 03 assistant managers along with a floor-coordinator. I joined as a part-time associate and later became a full time employee. Only after 06 months of my work, I was given a chance of becoming a floor co-ordinator, which I didn't accept since I didn't want retail as my career. I saw my assistant manager - home sense, having tears in her eyes, when it was my last working day there. 


4. My Co-workers:
I actually learned the essence of working with people of different backgrounds and cultures at Winners and Homesense. The ability to accept people of what they are and from where thy belong, was the most important part of working wit Winners. I was fortunate enough to work with people like that. 


5. The hardest Part of the Job:
Honestly, the hardest part of my job at winners, was when we were called for Washroom Checks and buggy runs, rest I was happy working in all shifts and days.



6. The most enjoyable part of the job:
Closings have always been the most enjoyable part of our job. We used to work together hand in hand with our management and co-workers during closing time. We used to talk, share personal things with each other - in order to get some advises and suggestions from the people whom we used to spent a major part of our day.

I think this is a really good first job but definitely not something long term. Honestly run as fast as you can. The management will literally treat you like you’re five years old. If you’re on cash you have to stand at your till until the lines are completely gone. If you try to walk away to do hangers or put returns away, you’ll have a manager or coordinator come up and ask what you’re doing before telling you to go back to your till. Also if you try to make friends and have fun on cash, they’ll assign tills so you’re at the opposite end from your friend and they’ll stand there and watch you to make sure you’re not talking. They hire new people and give them favourable positions over employees who have been there longer. Raises are barely anything and to get benefits as a part time employee was a dream that would never come true. Also it was impossible to move up the latter. You’re also not guaranteed shifts, so after christmas expect maybe 1 or 2 shifts a week. And the managers don’t talk to you when they have a problem or issue with you, they just let you keep doing the thing or things until they have enough to write you up. I found the younger people really easy to get along with but the older ladies were the worst. Gossipy, judgy, and cliquey. And they are so quick to tattle on you before just talking to you. I could go on forever this store is such a joke.

A typical day at work consists of providing good customer service and lending a helping hand where needed. I learned how to communicate with people better and be positive overall. The management are nice, understanding people. They are respected people who don't use their job title as some kind of power, and they help when it's needed. The co-workers are more like a family. You get to know everyone and they are all there when you need them to be. The hardest part of the job is dealing with some of the people you face in a day. It can be a little difficult when you are trying your best to provide a customer with the best possible customer service and it still isn't exactly enough for them. The most enjoyable part of the job is when you get something finished. You feel accomplished and like you've done something good for the workplace.

Overall it is a great place to work for an easygoing job. The tasks aren’t difficult and it’s very easy to succeed there. Every year you get a raise if you do well which definitely adds incentive. It is a very inclusive space and most of the management team is great. Things can get pretty stressful during high seasons like christmas which makes the managers a lot harder to work with but overall it’s not too bad. I definitely did enjoy most of my time working here, it can be very fun once you know what to do and you befriend your coworkers. I recommend not working in the warehouse if you can’t handle a more stressful and fast paced environment but anywhere else is a decently good time.

Winners and homesense is an okay place to work-but it is an unwelcoming and unfriendly environment. The store is huge and extremely busy. I wasn’t allowed on breaks sometimes as it was hard to find people to take my position. Sometimes I had to stand for 8 hours at the front of them store and other times come in for warehouse shifts early in the morning. During warehouse I completed tasks that seemed unsafe for a 15 year old girl. I was left alone. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
All the staff and management are super nice and are great people to work with

Nothing stressful everyone helps when needed

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Its a great company to work for I love it 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Its usually busy fast going and sometimes its steady but great

I overall enjoyed my time with tjx. Pros -lots of hours, schedule comes out well in advance, good bonus, always did fun events for holidays even like national ice cream day or something silly. Cons- low discount, to many managers, dress coat was a little strict in my opinion. Overall I would rate this gig a 7/10 because it was fun but the customers sucked and the store manager was never overly nice and didn't seem passionate 

My coworkers were very nice and fun and it was always enjoyable to go to work and to talk to my coworkers. Hours were variable since it was a retail store and some weeks you would work 20+ hours and other you would work 5 hours as a part time worker.

Most of my shifts started bright and early at 7:30 AM. Everyone was always happy to be there and eager to get working. Management was easy going and accommodating to any issues with scheduling and there were always opportunities to pick up more hours.

overall I learn't a lot of skill and gained friends, if it weren't for the people I met along the way I wouldn't be working there.
