For the moment, I have not completed a full year yet but so far the work is very interesting.

The interaction with people is very friendly. There is always someone who can help you. The management does not hesitate to give the equipment or tools necessary to accomplish the work effectively. However the technological level remained stuck in the year 2000. What is surprising considering the fact of wanting to give the best tools for an increased performance of the work of each one.

Benefits are comprehensive and advantageous. There is an effective 50/50 Pension Fund Program, Workers Union, Uniform Service Provided, Confidential Employee Assistance Service, a department for Health and Safety for All and Continuing Education on site. Recognition of the experience of each worker is well respected. Listening and open discussion gives a sense of belonging that is quite pleasant. A committee for social activities is present to strengthen the links between management and workers.

As in most companies, there are inexplicable decisions from senior management. On the other hand we have the opportunity to be able to minimize the impact of its decisions and to open the discussion with the leaders to avoid repeating mistakes. Proper training of department managers would be required to stop the large employee turnover that exists. This would allow us to have operators and experienced employees well established to improve and maintain the level of quality of the stable product.

In a given workday, management on all levels has set a reasonable standard of work, especially for the pay and benefits packages they offer. 
All management has, and actually follows through on, an open door policy for all staff and all managers, on all levels. The supervisors and mid level managers regularly converse with staff on the floor, encourage us to communicate issues, and involve us in everything from training, to operation procedures updates, to work events. 
There are some issues with the workplace culture  between the salaried office staff and the production staff, especially for those working 12 hour shift work, and there has been very little done to correct this issue even after management has been made aware of it.

A typical day at winpak would be: As soon as i enter the building I was enforced to wear a hair net and ear plugs.  The reason for these precautions was to ensure safety and cleanliness. When I arrived at my workstation I would read a schedule which would inform me about what type of products I will be making and then i would gather up the material required from different part of the warehouse to ensure that everything was performed at a fast pace.  My co-workers were very helpful and each shift if they had time they would give me a hand making sure that i was able to complete tasks efficiently.  The hardest part of the job was not the job but the weather since i was working in a factory the temperature inside would be 10 degrees higher than the temperature outside which made some days very hot and humid inside.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the co-workers who made the working environment very friendly.

It is a place where the focus is on the performance and output of the production rather than the well-being of the employees. Managers care a lot about their image instead of fixing problems that slow down production. Workforce support is in place but superiors do not consider it. The employer-employee relationship is unhealthy. A great lack of professionalism on the part of the managers. Most managers have a family connection. So all these people protect each other. This company has a high rate of employee turnover. Every week there are dismissals and hirings. Personally, Winpak is not at the same level as all the other companies that are up to date at the working relationship level. They are still stuck in 1980. If you do not mind and the salary is your only motivation, this is the place for you.

Winpak is a wonderful company having its up and downs. Lots of improvement opportunities, SST focus and open minded for innovation. Planning is an issue and communication can be much better. With the arrival of new management, a new vision will help reduce variances and improve overall productivity. 
The secret is working hand in hand with the employee's and making sure follow ups are being performed. 

Only negative point is that all the hard work is done and put on a couple key individuals.... when most management just walk around and are not doing the work they are supposed to. It gets frustrating to see your work colleagues do none of the work.....No change even when brought up to your manager. 

Hoping for the best but I will not continue much longer. 


The work was pretty easy in comparison to many other industries. We would be assigned to a machine, help operator, then wrap, package, and move the full skid to shipping.   The problem was that seniority was a problem, when I worked there. One can be the hardest worker on the floor, yet one of the lazier guys would get offered promotions or opportunities for simply being employed 2 months longer.

What really drove morale down, was the shift work. One week days, one week evenings, then one week nights, rinse, repeat. It was too hard to adjust to. Many on the floor developed drug/alcohol problems to cops. I lasted 2 years but by then, I was demoralised due to my inability to have any type of social life due to the shift work.

Typical day starts with getting your daily assigned scheduled machine for the day which is comprised of getting work order packaging requirements needed for the shift and some extra for the next guys. Prepping all the required materials for the day, assisting the Main operator in running production orders, maintaining an organized workflow , staying in pace or ahead of the production requirements and objectives and cleaning up before the end of the shift.  

Overall, a great temporary experience.
I was responsible for answering customer's request about pending orders.
Acted as a mediator between customer, production and shipping department, made sure customers had exact items ordered on time.
Would also answer phone calls and e-mails from customers and co-workers from Toronto.
A beautiful learning experience, panic environment, not my forte, but appreciated the challenges, just the same.

After working there for 5 and a half years I gained really good experience in the manufacturing and shipping environment. Only downside about this place is toxic work environment with certain employees that like to see people fail, direct supervisor in printing never took anything seriously as should have and HR doesn’t know what goes on behind closed doors. Good managers in both shipping and printing but the supervisors in printing need improvement.

Attractive hourly rate.  If you want to get ahead everyone else, you need to develop a thick skin to be able to (1) Not be bothered by politics (2) "Play" with the bosses (3) be a full fledged sociopath. Like the Jonestown incident, just drink the kool-aid and everything will be alright. Just let things happen naturally inside the four corners of the company because it's HR♡management's playground. Do this and all the benefits, to make your stay lovelier will roll right in your favor.
