A typical day is a fast paced multitasking day.  You can go from having a very upset person to deal with to a very emotional person. The department has 19 staff members so dealing with all the different personalities can be a challenge.  Every day is different and you have to know your job and have to be able to think on your feet.
Most enjoyable part of my job is seeing a smile on a patients face that I have helped.  
Hardest part of the job is dealing with cut backs.  
Everyday brings a new challenge.  There doesn't seem to be a day that goes by that a process has changed or there is a different way of doing something so you have to be flexible and able to adjust to change.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I loved being busy and all the porters work as a team. Great employer!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
We had little stress being a porter.  If I was backed up and had 6 patients waiting to be taken for tests but the company was understanding and you work as fast as possible. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Professional work environment and a mix of cultures.  At the time I was there it was primarily women portering  middle age . 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cone time work 15 minutes to a half hour ahead. Pick up a pager phone and discuss the day with staff that started earlier or if you are the first one in talk to xray, CT,MRI to see how busy they are and to let them know you are there.

My experience at WGH is incredibly positive. New building , great equipment friendly rural hospital and approachable management. I have the privilege of working with incredible professionals who are compassionate , people of integrity and fun too!
We have amazing hospitalists and family doctors. It is a very positive healthy work culture!

Under general supervision provided and delivered care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation, in accordance with established philosophy. Furthermore, collaborated with other professional disciplines to ensure patient care is delivered and achievement of desired patient outcomes exceeds facility policy. While providing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures, and also attended to those who are being treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness.

The mental health sector of WGH is amazing! There is real teamwork present and an interdisciplinary culture. Clients are valued and respected and the staff team support team conferences to ensure clients are well-served. There are many opportunities for learning and accountability. Self-reflection in your practice is expected. Self-care is encouraged and expected and WGH ensures that this is seen to both at work and outside of work through opportunities.

Management needs to be more accountable with employees that can't do the job properly. Employees should be on probation and if unable to do all aspects of the job, then they should either have 1 extension of the probation or let go and find someone that is capable of the job.
There should be teared pay scales. Its not fair that everyone under the same job title gets paid the same when not everyone is doing the full job duties.

Management gives NO consideration for the nurse.  If ANY negative report comes in from a patient you won't be given any chance to defend yourself; you are guilty until proven innocent regardless of whether the accusations are true.

Some nursing staff can be welcoming and accommodating but in most cases they are in cliques and back stab.

Educational services, on the other hand, are awesome and were the only reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Support from peers and boss.. Ongoing teaching to meet the requirements for yearly licensing 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Cliques of nurses. They either like you or they don't. 12 hou shifts and working short. They took away casual nurses made it difficult to find replacements..

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Started early, for report. 4 to 5 patients day shift. Signs every where abuse is not tolerated. Workload was getting heavier with hi needs patients

The team I worked with during the pandemic was so supportive.   We worked great as a team during a very stressful time

There were many changes during the time of the pandemic but we worked hard to implement every change

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I always felt happy to go to work and although we had challenges I still enjoyed my job and time there

Woodstock General Hospital is a clean and friendly workplace. The staff are very welcoming no matter what background you come from as long as you are competent in your role. The resources at the hospital are abundant especially if you're a new grad or require additional education. There are multiple positions in the hospital and some may be temporary/permanent/casual/job share., etc...
