There are many aspects of this employer that shine, and anyone just starting here will likely be satisfied if not impressed. But it doesn’t take long to see the cost of the organization’s success is passed on to frontline staff. Though there are unions in place, there is strong anti-union sentiment among some senior staff leaders, which leads to peer-on-peer friction. Sadly, though the organization proudly promotes anti-discrimination and a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy for workplace bullying, the application of this is highly inconsistent and seems only relevant when convenient. There is frequent gas-lighting and an emphasis on towing the company line rather than clinical excellence or patient satisfaction regarding advancement opportunities. Most coworkers are lovely people, but sadly there is a well-established and accepted culture of withholding support, gossip, groupthink and reinforcing bad behaviours among informal leaders. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Many people were amazing. Kind, professional and welcoming.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The treadmill environment and lack of concern for the well being of workers. It was a high stress, numbers driven, environment. That's says a lot coming from someone who worked in child protection! 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very numbers driven with a "ticky" box focus.  Very cliquey with lack of response to abusive/bullying behaviors by other workers.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very structured with little room for any creative ideas or thoughts.

An overall horrible place to work. Management sets you up to fail and is first to complain when tasks are taking too long to complete. Others are quick to take credit for your ideas but won't acknowledge the concerns and ideas you bring forward to your face. Horrible morale and low employee retention rate, especially for new younger staff. It is a wonder how the hospital holds a high customer care rating when it's infrastructure is crumbling. A good example is that they were quick to spend money on expensive furniture for their staff room, but won't even upgrade software that has been outdated for 20 years. 

The free food at staff events was nice though!

Great Hospital.. Horrible department. ..if you would like a place to go work where your coworkers are miserable work here. If you want a place to work where you are expected to memorize instrument trays and work out of a binder which is never updated work here. If you want to work at a place that hires you even though you have another part time job and expects this hospital to be you top priority, work here. I was  very surprised on the lack of organization in this department... I hope the others are  better.

I really enjoy my job and coworkers I just feel when it comes to salary/wages we are way behind other hospitals in the surrounding areas by at least $3-5/hour. We have been asked to do more in the past few years without any compensation. It makes it hard to want to stay here especially when you see job postings for the same job starting out at a higher wage than what we make after several years! 

I presently work in the kitchen. I’m new to this area but I find all my coworkers to be very team oriented and always willing to help each other out to get the job done efficiently.   Great place to work ! I worked in the housekeeping department before the kitchen and I really enjoyed my job in that department as well.  Overall Woodstock hospital is  a great place to work! 

I have been a volunteer, student and now employee of Woodstock Hospital over the span of 4 years and I have enjoyed every position and role I have been in. The staff are always friendly and understanding and the work I have done is fulfilling and valued. I only wish there were more Full-time positions available. 

There is a lot of competition among departments for fulltime, like vultures and senority rules!!!!! There is lots of bullying and drama... like being in high school  all over again.  The union is useless and only benefits the "lazy and entitled "haha. Supervisor is very shady / liar ect ...and caters to fulltime.  Your phone will constantly ring as f/time can never work a full week. Very annoying!!!!!!

Great opportunity to work in an environment that you develop relationships that improve your working experience.  Small community hospitals allow coworkers to know your ethic and trust your decisions.  The only downfall is that there are very little opportunities to advance your career.  Management is too flat, placing burden on managers that impact the frontline.

Would not recommend this place, unqualified management and hr staff. Extremely dismissive of any issues and unwillingness to handle conflict resolution. This institution practices favouritism given the non union setting.
