I worked as a coach for several years and progressed through all the levels within the company. Over time, I developed a clear understanding of how the system operates, and unfortunately, my experience became increasingly negative.

To be fair, the beginning was positive. The local gym-level environment was enjoyable, and I appreciated the opportunities than helped me acquire experience and grow.

However, as time went on, consistent issues became more apparent within the company as a whole.

Facility-related problems such as broken equipment, constant air circulation issues, and overall maintenance were ongoing. These issues were often acknowledged but not effectively resolved. Communication from management was inconsistent, and getting honest answers was nearly impossible.

Another recurring issue was the lack of clarity and transparency around contracts. Terms did not always feel stable (constant and contradictory changes) or easily accessible, which made it challenging to fully understand the conditions of the role at all times. They just wouldn’t accept to give you a copy, which is unethical.

The most important thing to understand is how performance is evaluated as a coach.

If you are strong in sales, you’ll probably do well.
If your focus is primarily on coaching quality, your legacy and long-term professional development, you may find the environment extremely limiting.

The structure is heavily sales-driven. You will develop skills in selling, client retention, and client management, which are all valuable. However, coaching expertise and technical development are not the company’s main focus.

Clients are also not truly yours in a practical sense (even though they keep telling you they are). While you build the relationship, control ultimately remains with the company. Decisions made at a higher level, like cancellations far beyond delays, can directly impact your income, even when situations are outside of your control. Upper management will most of the time stay quiet about their “exceptions.”

There is also a noticeable gap between sales expectations and coaching standards. In many cases, the environment prioritizes numbers ($$$) over expertise or professionalism, which can lead to inconsistencies in the quality of service and constant turnaround. Clients aren’t naive as they used to be, they can see when a pro is a pro and when a salesperson is a salesperson.

The overall approach to equipment, gym layout, colours and services is embarrassing and outdated compared to what is currently expected in the industry. This impacts both the client experience and the coach’s ability to deliver high-level work.

Unfortunately the people at the head of branding, marketing, sales or even coaching are not experts in the fitness industry and when the time comes for PROMOS it shows in the most negative way.

Expectations can also feel disconnected from reality especially considering the location of the gym and the lead quality you’re provided. Performance targets are often tied to volume without always considering actual working conditions.

To summarize:

• Strong emphasis on sales over coaching quality
• Limited transparency in contracts and expectations
• Clients remain controlled at the company level
• Recurring facility and maintenance issues
• Inconsistent communication from management

To give credit where it is due, you will gain valuable experience in sales, client management, and lead conversion. Those are transferable skills that can help you in future opportunities.

That said, the overall structure can become difficult to sustain long term.

There is constant pressure to sell and remain available for consultations, many of which do not convert. Scheduling often prioritizes quantity over quality, which can affect both your time and the service you provide. If you jam pack your semi private sessions, clients will notice, not renew, and it’ll force you to be in a constant state of client turnaround, which is not to your advantage.

Despite being presented as flexible, the role is demanding and time-intensive. As you become more efficient and attempt to create balance, expectations tend to increase rather than stabilize.

The “highest” performers in this company aren’t the ones with the most stability or freedom. In many cases, large sales lead to increased pressure and higher expectations from head office. Trying to reduce workload to maintain balance or avoid burnout can be perceived negatively and you will be constantly pressed by their head of sales.

Over time, this creates an environment where maintaining long-term sustainability is difficult. Most people burn out within their first year and multiple times throughout their career.

If you are considering working there, be clear about your goals. If you want to gain sales experience and learn how to operate in a high-pressure environment, there is some value in this job.

If your goal is to grow as a coach, build autonomy, financial stability and maintain control over your personal life and client relationships, this is not the best fit.

If you want to be genuinely happy and successful, this may not be the best option for you.

I am still grateful for the experience and what I learned.

Many of my friends or other respectable professionals have asked me to refer them and get them hired but I’ve always said no adamantly. I’ve seen too many valuable coaches lose themselves in the hopes of getting some recognition or forcing talents they do not have instead of exploiting the wonderful talents that, once they left this company, led them to success.

Based on my experience, being a coach who has accomplished everything there was to accomplish in this company, both professionally and financially, I would never recommend this workplace to anyone, unfortunately, not even  to the most despicable person I’ve ever met.

I only stayed there for about 3 months and it was honestly one of the worst work environments I’ve experienced. The job is minimum wage but the expectations are extremely high, with constant micromanagement from management.
Schedules were often sent last minute and sometimes even changed without notice during the same week they applied, which made it almost impossible to plan anything outside of work. Employees would frequently receive warnings for small issues while management showed very little professionalism themselves. When problems happened, everything would fall on front desk staff and clients would often end up taking their frustration out on you.
During my time there, I also experienced an incident where I was hit by someone, and I did not feel that the situation was taken seriously or that I received proper support from management or head office.
I also witnessed a lot of disrespect toward employees and a workplace culture where people talked behind each other’s backs. Communication from management was poor and trust was very low.
After I resigned, I later found out that I had been banned from the gym without any clear explanation. I attempted to contact the gym and head office to understand why, but I never received any response.
Overall, it felt like a very unprofessional environment with little respect for employees. Based on what I saw, it’s not surprising that employee retention seems to be very low. Personally, I would not recommend working there. Save yourself the stress!

WG was a horrible work environment at the DDO location. management was horrible and rude, they don’t care about the customers or employes. they took me as joke, and they laugh about the clients all the time! i did a lot of the work that was suppose to be for the management/ Boss, they are lazy.... Stats had to be met and I would always get top scores and was  never rewarded when being told I would be! everything in that gym is all lies! No commission... but they expect you to sell so many contracts and walk ins and nothing is rewarded... and if you don’t meet a certain percentage you are in trouble ! They tell you not to tell the customers the truth because they try to hide things which is very uncomfortable to do since people are there for honesty and to find a good gym environment! Clients would scream at me because of lack of management  (hiding in the office) and they would take it out on the front staff... management wouldn’t do anything  defend us... they didn’t care! horrible horrible horrible work environment... very dirty gym as well... always problems with the pool or jacuzzi, no one ever seems to care, always complaints from customers and no one would care to make them satisfied which led to the front desk always getting screamed at for it! never took lunch breaks of if i did i would be standing in the back but keeping an eye on the front desk.. few times left alone for 8 hours with no one there! stay away!!!! at least at that location.....  TRUST ME! 

As a student working as a Member Service Representative at one of World Gym Quebec’s branches, my day-to-day involved welcoming members, managing check-ins, keeping the environment clean and professional, answering questions, and selling contracts. It was a great way to gain real-world experience while balancing my studies, and it helped me build strong communication and customer service skills. After completing my education, I was given the opportunity to move up to the head office. The transition has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful to work in an environment that values growth, teamwork, and a shared passion for fitness. Management has always been supportive, and the workplace culture, both at the branch and head office—is welcoming, energetic, and driven. The most enjoyable part of the job has been the people I work with and the sense of purpose that comes with contributing to a brand that truly makes a positive impact.

Mangement consists of supporting, guiding and coaching clients and staff to prioritize their health through exercise and nutrition.

free gym pass was the only good thing.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
the work in general is not stressfull, but the stress comes with the goals. the only thing that matters for them is that you sells the most expensive membership they have. they don't care if you have a good aproach with the clients, if you do all correct. if you did't sell the number of membership they want, you are out. and they expect that you learn that in 1 week. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
you are responsible to verify all the clients that enter the gym, deal with expiring membership, also keep the bathroon clean, call clients that are not paying.

Being the payroll responsible, expecting some  HECTIC days is very normal. However, I learned that when you are surrounded with positive people like JEANNIE & SAMMY as well as the whole HO staff , things get smoother, the pressure goes away , and fun replaces instead. 
At the beginning , my job was an opportunity to challenge myself, and then every time I hear a comment  from the big WORLD GYM family  members ( employees/consultants) I know that I have done the best choice by working in this amazing company.

The work is enjoyable, fulfilling, and engaging, but management is extremely poor: constant micromanagement, obvious lies, and no leadership by example. As someone who has always had great work experiences and feedback, and who strives for strong teamwork and a positive work culture, I never expected to encounter such a poor workplace. The pay doesn’t match the effort, you could earn double elsewhere for similar sales work. There’s no real work ethic or sense of responsibility. Minor mistakes are punished as harshly as major ones, and perfection is expected almost immediately, even though management themselves don’t fully understand many of the tasks.

I've been working for World Gym Quebec for 8 month, and so far it has been amazing. This company is more than just a workplace; it's a place where dreams are nurtured, and talents are celebrated.

From day one, I've been impressed by the strong sense of camaraderie among colleagues. The teamwork and support here are exceptional, creating an environment where everyone can thrive. We are encouraged to think outside the box and bring fresh ideas to the table. Every voice is heard.

I can confidently say that World Gym Quebec is not just a job; it's a family that I'm proud to be part of.


Definitely challenging But extremely rewarding. 
I had some management experience when I joined world gym. But I realized that I had to learn new skills and with the support of the company, my desire to learn, and the coaching they provide i developed those skills. 
I learned a lot about business. How to grow revenues. Also, helping my employees develop and coaching them. It was like a big family.
I left for an opportunity at a town That I couldn't refuse. But I really appreciate my experience and my time spent with world gem in the team.
