I left due to mismanagement , and constantly fighting with safety.
The safety team is a joke and put you at risk.  They didn't like the way  that I was lifting material with the zoom boom, one of them happened to be heavy scrap pipe,  they wanted it strapped, lifted over garbage bins then exit the machine , go under a live load and unstrap it letting the pipes roll over my head into the bin. Not a chance! I do not put myself or others at risk. When I refused I was written up. Then The Forman used a last strike rule to basically hold my job over my head and to get me to comply .
  Safety laughed at me and said I was lying to them when asked how many years I had been running equipment witch happens to be fourteen years. No professionalism and very condescending .

 My breaking point was after a back strain I asked to get off an hour early at the end of the day to see my chiropractor , I came in the next day with a doctors note and subsequently written up again.

  This place is a revolving door for workers. If you need something to get you by until something better comes along take it as the pay is decent for in the city. But be wary as They write up and fire people on a whim . The general forman that sit in the office along with their safety need to be replaced for this to be a better place.

 The only good part of this job was the others that worked along your side, good attitude and always there to give a hand when needed.

The worst was having Forman constantly remind you that if you didn't like it here working close to home that you could go work in some camp up north.

There is no such thing as training, it’s a sink or swim mentality. You are expected to know how to do the job because of your experience but no one takes the time to show you the company’s work procedures because there is none. I spent a good amount of time trying to figure a lot on my own by asking around. The few times you are “trained” to do something, it was inconsistent training were you had to figure out how to put it all together. I had many times were I had to chase someone down to ensure I was doing something correct and would be told it was, only to be reprimanded a few months later on how it was all incorrect. This was normal behaviour. You will thrive at this place if you are a brown noser, bully or are married to higher up management. There is no team mentality, you will be thrown under the bus even if you only had a small part to do with a task that is called into question. And the “executive team” are also very unprofessional and bully’s. I sat in many meetings were they would curse at people and be very dismissive. All and all it was a very toxic environment, I can say that this was the most toxic place I have worked at. The company does not care about their employees, their number one priority is their bottom line. Getting laid off was a huge relief even during times like this. 

It was quite an exeprience,one that i really liked, get up every morning get into work, the day at work usally started with a tailgate meeting
where issues relating to the previous days incidents or concerns are addressed( safety is a big concern and compliance with safety regulation must at all times be adhere to.
Each morning after the foreman give my work crew our days assignment we set our plan in motion, firstly by filling out a FLHA (form) which identifies hazards on the work site and find creative ways to eliminate them and then set to work.
Apart from learning some work skills, i learn that working as a group is a very effective way of working, all looking out for the safety and well being of each other and the pride in acomplishing our assignment.
The head of the management team would be out and take the time and talk to workers, which i find very refreshing, I really enjoy my work knowing that i help to build and never mised a day, physically fitter, and one of the most important trade off is the bank account.
I really like my lifestyle while doing the 14/7 days shift, one week to travel.
The hardest part of the job for me is a slow day.

Was the only welder hired on nightshift. The tool crib was shocking when I saw it. I have better equipment home. They have minimal welding related tools and the stuff they do is hidden inside. Got called for a weld repair and when asked where it was marked I was told “its obviously”. Foreman looked and couldn’t find it so phoned QC for what turned out to be 1/32 undercut. Got told if I didn’t fix it they would find someone else to hire and do it. When I asked for some help to move the gear back because it was me and a fire watch I got told I am crazy if I think I am getting a helper and they won’t be rolling out the red carpet for me. Foreman said this job probably isn’t for me and asked if I wanted to go back to camp. It was the easiest decision of my life. My cab to Saskatoon was $300 and it was the best money I’ve spent. Management made up of pipefitters and seem to be out to lunch. Skip this spot at all costs due to high turnover and safety incidents. If you do get hired as a welder bring a helmet because although the email says supplied you will be grilled for not bringing one.

What is the best part of working at the company?
 Knowing that Management appreciates my ability to run the Crane in a Smooth and Safe  manner. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Young/New workers with a poor attitude!   If the Crane Operator is concerned about some part of the lift, then be concerned too.  And want to know what the Operator is concerned about !  Generally it’s the people at the end of the hook that get hurt if something goes wrong.  Listen to people with experience, the Crane Operator is there to make your work day easier and is concerned about your Safety  and completing the lift Safely.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Strong Team Effort Philosophy.   My job as an Operator is to make your job easier.  When the ground crew has confidence in your ability to be Smooth and Safe, it builds a Strong Sense of Wellbeing and Trust making for a Great Work Day.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The Crew works well together and will pitch in without hesitation when the Rigger needs a hand.  The days go really fast.  It’s Monday and the next thing you know it’s Friday.

The work at WorleyParsons is second to none for the steamfitter-pipefitter trade with hands on experience fabricating spools, tacking spools, and the installation of pipe and piping components into modules. Unfortunately the apprentice levels of pay are significantly lower than many other places in town.

With that being said the upper level management (above the superindent / general foreman) is very poor. Everyone complains about management at all jobs, however I have found the yard management at WorleyParsons Cord mod yard to be the most callous towards employees out of everyone I have worked for. For example, often they pressure early in the week to sign up for overtime on Saturday but cancel it Friday 15 minutes before the end of your shift, negating any plans you already declined because you were supposed to be working. Several times myself and others on our crew spent our weekends alone because our spouses and children made out of town plans because we would be working. This is just one example of many.

Luckily the work is good and the crew is phenomenal or else I would not have stayed working at this yard.

I don’t recommend working here. The work is extremely inconsistent. They’ll tell you they have 2 years of work, and then 6 months later, they’re going to 4 days a week and you’ve got about 2 weeks to find another job before they lay you off. I was laid off and explicitly told by my supervisor and management that I’d be back in about 2 months. I was contacted multiple times to reassure I’d be coming back but the come back date kept moving until finally, 8 months later I was told that I wasn’t coming back. I was told there was no work, then drive by and see there’s plenty. They give you a $1000 retention bonus when they hire you and then 3 months later, it gets cancelled and you never see it. Management is cliquey and it’s a boys club. The hours are long and the work life balance is non existent. These guys made a mistake on my tax return to top things off that costed me a lot. They say theyre a company for growth and career advancement, but give up on you soon as you prove your worth. I am still reaping the negative consequences of working here. Absolutely do not recommend. 

Typical day, attend site management meeting to review issues and plan the days activities. Facilitate, working wit the site super, the daily crew site safety meeting. Assist in the development of indivual JHA's. Attend the site wide safety meeting and diseminate any required news to our crew. Perform site walkabouts, inspections, investigations as required. Manage equipment and worker certs to ensure compliance. Conduct site orientations for all new workers. Maintain all site safety paperwork and take part in site safety audits.
The thing i like most about the construction industry is that you are alwways learning. I really enjoy being busy, meeting new people and ensuring that new workers get a smooth indoctrination. The hardest part of the job is having to releive someone you respect for safety violations or failing a D & A test

mornings always start with morning meeting and tasks for the day or additional comments. After is followed by stretches and our FHLA's.
Work starts and we get our regular breaks. 
Someone always has more experience the you and is willing to show you a better or proper way. tacking, reading prints, tie proper knots and rigging. welding extra things such as shipping plates and supports.
co workers are 9 time out of 10 willing to show you. 
the hardest part of the job is not having some tools that make things easier and faster because someone abused the tool then got hurt.
The most enjoyable is the learning experience and seeing how things are done so differently in the same trade. Using all of your skills and learning more.

When I first started with WPC it was a called Teamco and it was a smaller manageable company.
 It is growing at a rapid rate without the correct processes/people in place to make growth successful. 

Management is very poor, heads of departments don't know how to relate to employees and there is much unnecessary drama in regards to releasing employees, changing titles etc. 

One must remember that an employees actions/work are a direct reflection on the Management and they should start being accountable instead of passing the buck.

HR department is very hard to work with when on a project, always seem to be working against site.

Hard to tell that everyone works for the same company- Definitely not a "team" atmosphere.
