Go to the dry and get suited up for work.  Meet shifter at wicket and review days work.  Vehicle requirements change daily as job for day changes as well.  Go underground and retrieve vehicle.  Drive to dust suppression control panels at different levels.  Adjust timers on dust suppression control panels dependent upon ramp driving/dust conditions.  Dependent on conditions on different levels as well.  Change/repair trunk lines, nozzles and hoses on dust suppression.  Install venting, pipe or repair venting or pipe.

  I learned about underground operations and safety.  I learned about rtamp conditions and how it affects underground operations.  Venting, air and water lines.  Navigating underground and I learned about mine production, stopes and different types of blasting.

  Management was great as we were given a task and trusted to complete the task.

  Great co-workers.  Hard working, dedicated yet could still have fun.
Sometimes it was hard to get the vehicle required to perform a task.

  Hardest part was that vehicles were not always at the underground location or level we were told it was on.

  Most enjoyable part was the hard work and challenges of the job.

My day is dealing with maintenance foreman on a daily basis to create a schedule for the coming week ,ordering material to do the job and dealing with suppliers.

I have learned a trade ,how to use computers , how do deal with conflict between hourly employees and staff
I have a great respect for my co-workers and we get along tremendously.

I would say the hardest part would be driving 26 kilometers to work in the winter time.

When you finish the week and all the work that was on the weekly schedule has been completed with now accidents or first aids

12 hr shifts. 2 day shifts, 2 off, 2 night shifts...repeat forever.
Equipment so bad that Xstrata pulled the lead trailers from all but one of the trains. They were forced to send them back to the manufacturer to be re-designed. Welds on the trailers were all cracked on the driver's side of the front A frame. Meaning that there was nothing holding the trailer together at that point. Local management still wanted to use it. They haul 63500 kgs of slurry with equipment that is basically scrap. Company doesn't care about safety, only that the trucks are on the road. They pay well, it's the only thing that keeps people there.

Everyday there was something new to learn. I leant a lot about Feluwa pumps underground. I learnt more about welding and how to change the cables on the shafts and the daily maintenance on the equipment used in a mine. My co-workers were very easy to get along with, very down to earth and always had something to teach me. I personally do not feel there was a hard part of the job, although, the most enjoyable part of the job was always learning something new.

great company to work for until the union got in, then it was all down hill from there.
 l was able to train as a supervisor and maintenance planner while working in the field and in the maintenance shops.
 l was also encouraged to obtain any welding certificate that was of value to the company, as a result l had the most tickets of any one on site for a couple of years, and was able to maintain my CWB certifation.

I truly enjoyed working for this company. I started there as a pool mechanic. Got a posting to a full time position. Had great chances to move around in the mine to learn & improve my chances to grow. I ended up  as a supervisor.
The management team was great to help with the learning proses.
To me there was no hard part to my time there.
I had  great co-workers, great management. We work as a team.

Proper training programs targeted towards your individual job title. Organized team leaders and job assignments. Easy going team workers. Hardest part of the job is coping with temperature. Most enjoyable aspect is working with a talented educated team/leaders and continuing education which keeps you up to date.

Worked with Senior Legal Counsel and the Board of Directors who were constantly reviewing what is best for the Corporation and how to grow it.  Worked closely with the Corporate Secretary preparing regulatory documentation and filing in accordance with the law.

Handling the mine expansion while normal operation is ongoing is the challenge in the job. You got to be precise with your scheduling and get commitment with the other working group for their support. Everything went well as the project was completed on schedule, budget and safety.
