York Federation of Students

Working with the York Federation of Students I gained valuable experience to the other side of the education industry. Education administration and management play a pivotal role in the experience of students at any institution. I learnt about promoting student initiatives and awareness in various local and global issues, I had an opportunity to interact with students of different nationalities to find out how our department can make their student experience better. 
My team at the YFS was a vibrant one, we all worked well together to ensure that the students came first and were getting the best university experience possible with the resources we were given. The most enjoyable part of my job was interacting with a variety of students and faculty on a day-to-day basis, all with the same common goal of improving overall student life on campus.

It was volunteer work - not paid. Staff and other volunteers were nice and helpful. A typical day included working with other staff and volunteers to set up/prepare items for events  usually indoors. The most enjoyable part is working with everyone while there is loud music blaring, and everyone is feeling good. The hardest was going for hours straight working, lets say stuffing kits, requires standing for a long period, but we get to take a break any time.

The opportunities within the YFS were vast. Getting involved with the student union allowed me to learn more about myself, step out of my shell and bubble, and learn how to engage within the community. It was probably the space that most prepared me for navigating within a workforce.

Everyone is great, its an amazing work environment. It can be high stress but it is rewarding to work directly with the community and as a team. I learned a lot about event planning, outreach, peer support

The services provided by the York Federation of Students is fundamentally necessary to all undergraduate students in numerous points of the academic career. The work environment is very positive.

The staff was very encouraging and inspiring to be around. The hours are very flexible and the staff are willing to teach you what you may not know. Amazing and model work environment.

The execs would be unhappy to receive certain visitors but would not communicate that to other staff and instead just treat front desk staff negatively.

Great environment, allows worker to be in direct contact with students. provides great experience in basic insurance related issues. improves customer service skills
