Management encouraged staff to take part in various mindfulness classes, yoga, walking, activities, planning for meetings to debrief and socialize on a macro level.  The Nature of the job was high stress.  Critical thinking and rapid response was what a  typical work day consisted of.   I learned how to assess,  analyze and create suitable action plans to meet client/caregivers needs.   The hardest part of the job was to keep up with the Ministry amendments, which resulted in frequent updates to current policy and procedures. The most enjoyable part of the job was when a service user was satisfied with my efforts  or if I was able to make any type of positive change to their lives; self-fulfillment.

At first the work environment appeared relaxed and helpful. There was ample opportunity for growth in learning and training, with focus on mindfulness and selfcare.That changed in two weeks when insecure coworkers began to gossip and sabotage. Others joined in. It was unfortunate to see those who I had positive working relationship with join on the debauchery. Thanks to those who had integrity and professionalism.

Very clique organization! No room for advancement unless you have been there since the beginning of time, or you are a “yes” person! 

Salary is terrible for the work that is expected! The benefits are insulting to say the least! If you are an eye glass user expect the benefit to only pay $100!!! 

If you are hired for case management or other similar role. Expect to also be the “IT” department. 

Employees do a wonderful job focussing on the community and what individuals with disabilities and their parents need.

It is a hard job because you are always juggling things but when you see the wonderful things that parents find out about services available to them and how happy and less stressed it makes them it is really a great feeling.

So far during CoVid the agency has done what it can to ensure our safety, however the work has been difficult in terms of establishing relationships with clients.  
I am also only on contract, so uncertain times for myself in my position, but also for management.

It is a not for profit business, so funds are always low to actually make things happen, therefor lots of meetings, lots of wasted time and repetitive job. However, work-life balance is great, colleagues are supportive and overall a nice work environment. 

Management are so good and friendly 
Case load is fair
Safety is on top and excellent 
Policy is good 
Work ethic is excellent 
Staff treat respectfully by management and has value 
Team building strategy is good 
Transparency and trust is good 




Management decide on favourite staff and those staff get preferred treatment.  Expectations for work is not balanced and having friendships at work is discouraged.

I worked as a special needs aide for two young adults with autism. My job was to take them around the city, teach them how to use public transit, order at restaurants, and other basic skills.

Its such a nice agency in York region and feel great that I am part of it.
They offer competitive salary and professional development opportunities. I would recommend this any social workers
