Youth Council

Youth Council at Warden Hiltop community centre was a great place where you come in exicted to get to work. A place whereI devlopmed various skills such as perseverence and leadership skills.It required a lot of time management in balancing out my school, work and social life. As most of th woerk includied plaing events to benefit the youth in the community. This meant respecting any opinions and making sure that every imput is taken into consideration. It was a positive space wehre i was able to share my opinions whtiout any discrimination or prejudice. The hardest part was getting tthings done on the scheduleed time due to making sure that every step was done perfectly. Overall, working at Warden Hiltop Community Center was a lively experience working along side respectful co-workers, genuinely loving what I do and having fun every step of the way.

The typical day at work for me was discussing and organizing events for youths to take part of such as bake sales, Halloween haunted houses so that they can be occupied and prevent the from drugs and other addiction. I learned how to work efficiently while coordinating with my co-workers. I also learned how to take initiative and listen to my peers. The most important thing that i learned in youth council is to be more confident in myself so that i can give opinions that can benefit our youths in our community. The management was hospitable and caring. They helped us in buying the necessary materials that we need while guiding us. The hardest part of the job was going door to door to accept donations because it was tiring. The most enjoyable part of the job is making new friends while making a change in our society

The greatest part about my job is that I have the opportunity to help many children who are in the same position that I once was once in as well. I grew up with the Durham Children's Aid foundation and after I moved out on my own and began my life as an independent adolescent the Society contacted me with a job opportunity. They felt that because of my experience as a youth in care and my ability to move past my experiences and become a successful young adult, that I had the ability to help another child who is in the same position I was once in myself. The best part of my job is being able to make a difference in a child's life who is struggling and providing them with support.

I volunteered to do this job, so I am not getting pay, but I love what I'm doing there. I am learning a lot from this position ''Youth Council''. I had no idea of how to manage, or plan things before, for example for events. Now that I am there, providing youth with safe, and with stimulating places to go, it helped me gained some other skills. The hardest part of the job is that, the staff put a lot pressure on us. I guess because we are still young and still learning. The most enjoyable part of the job is that, even though there is pressure, I am still learning things, and developing new skills, and I think that is really important for me now and in the future.

other youth council members including president, vice president, treasure, male and female rep, it was fun to be able to join to moricetown chief and council  for a meeting in Prince George, hardest part was making plans that not much people attended.

this position is great for anyone who believes that children and youth should have rights and should have individuals advocate for them. This position needs an individual who is able to speak publically

The Youth Council was a program where youth got involved with the public by doing research based on various subjects and inputted them into data banks.

Fun experience, taught me many new skills. It was an in school volunteer opportunity that worked with many organizations in order to better the life of others.

I'm not payed any salary, I work there for free, but it's an amazing environment for me to attend every meetings we have for organizing, planning events.

It was a fun experience, allowed youth to engage with the public and make informed decisions. Educate youth about the harms of tobacco and drugs that cause harm to the human body.
