Learned most of my skills in my 21 years of employment!
There was a good variety of responsibilities in this job. interaction with youth and schools was only one factor. I learned great leadership skills, mentored numerous youth and young adults, coached sports teams and worked on a professional level with school administrations. This position required me to raise 100% of my salary as well as being responsible to raise the program budget as well. There were many challenges over the years but the hardest thing throughout was to wear both hats as minister and fundraiser. It was never about money for me, but about the people/youth that I worked with.

This was a volunteer position.  The organization is deeply faith-based, which is fine if you are in that faith.  

They organization does try really hard to ensure every young person who enters their doors is genuinely accepted and is included.  

No one get paid to work there.  The management and “employees” are essentially missionaries and are solely funded through donations.

Very youth focused workplace, it can be fun but also is very meaningful and fulfilling work. I've learned that organizations can get a lot more done when working as a team, and Youth Unlimited does a great job of this. Workplace culture is warm and welcoming.  A typical day at work has a little bit of everything: admin, direct work with youth, strategic planning and team meetings.

This is not a paid position; a potential employee needs to raise their salary through fundraising.  Youth are awesome, as are all the staff.  It is rewarding to connect with the youth.  

Youth Unlimited Edmonton was the only drop-in shelter willing to take practicum students during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

a typical day was being at work by 8 am, setting up the the tables and gym for the kids that come early and have the sign up sheet and daily schedule for the parents to see until and depending on weather we would go outside or stay inside.

As part of a group I have spent one week of the last few summers working as a volunteer in different cities. This has included jobs such working in homeless shelters, community gardens, as well as helping in community youth programs. I plan to take a week to do this again this summer.

I worked at a summer camp that was funded by Youth Unlimited, here's what to expect. It's a fast paced environment, where children (7-14) are everywhere and you must keep your eyes open. It's not as stressful as it sounds. 

Working at Youth Unlimited was so fun I would go back, no questions asked! It was a welcoming environment & you can make a lot of new friends. It also makes you very fit due to daily biking.

You have to fundraise your own salary. You have to cold call people you know, and people you don't, and ask them to support you financially through monthly payments. This does not work, and adds a whole new dynamic to the job. It's terrible.
