I worked for tentree for three years right out of university. I first learned about them in one of my business courses and felt so lucky to have been hired by a local company with such a great business model. 

It turned out to be the best job I have ever had. 

The work was challenging as they were still a fairly fresh company when I started. But they were adaptable and flexible and I was empowered to come up with solutions to any issues or set backs that arose in my department. Management and senior team members were always approachable and listened openly to my concerns or suggestions. And I was always compensated fairly for my work and my time, if not immediately than over time. Sure, there were times when I would work late or from home. But I was never asked to. I volunteered and this was always appreciated by management. 

I wanted to go the extra mile. Could you truly say you would do the same for the company you currently work for?

Most importantly for me was the feeling that I was a part of something big. Their mission is so much more than planting trees and anyone can tell how passionate the founders are by just listening to them speak. And this passion is contagious. It is something that still excites me even two years later. The team always had a way to make sure you knew that your role was just as important as a tree planter's. 

Did I mention the Nintendo game challenges (Mario Kart being my personal favourite)? The team building outings? The yearly conference? The free snacks? The flexibility? The list goes on and I would encourage any applicant to find out more. 

I only left tentree for a job where more advancement was offered in a completely different type of work and industry, with the added benefit of remaining in my home town (Saskatchewan). And, to be honest, I miss working for tentree every day. I still speak so highly of them and as if I was still a part of their team. They will always be the standard to which I compare other companies.

I'm gonna keep it short otherwise I feel like people won't read this. 

I honestly love tentree so much. I started working for tentree when it was still relatively small and the head office was in Saskatchewan. The head office moved to Vancouver and I accepted an offer to move out here because I didn't want to part with tentree. It's a big risk to move provinces for a small company who hasn't been on the market that much.. but I felt like the risk would pay off, and fortunately I was right!

The company is growing rapidly and there are tons of opportunities to move up/explore different departments. I was still very new when I moved out here and I quickly jumped into a management position (6 months) I was given a lot of trust and responsibility and it felt great to know a company saw my potential (I've never managed before lol) I started a whole new team from scratch and it's honestly the best work environment I've ever had. I felt like I've brought on a lot of positive changes to my department and it feels good to see your work  pay off. I can't say the same thing about other companies I've worked for sadly. 

Regarding the company ethics itself - tentree really cares about the quality of its product and is transparent to the team and customers about it. So much thought and research goes into making an environmentally-friendly piece of clothing. tentree is very passionate about the environment and you can tell through everything they do and all the policies they implement. 

Regarding pay - no you do not make OT which to be honest is a bummer; however, the over time hours you put in (if you work OT - you don't have to) do not go unnoticed. You are eligible for a bonus at the end of the year if you are contributing extra hours.

When I first interviewed at Tentree I was coming from working with big fashion retailers and I was unmotivated with the industry. I was tired of working  to sell things to people, with nothing to make it worth it. Then tentree came along. I must say I was quite skeptical in my interview, and it showed and they didn’t shy away from my hard questions. I got offered the job along with another one in another company (not a retailer, and for more money) and I knew I had to take it. 
I’ve been working at tentree for a while now and I’m proud to say I work there. I get excited to go to work and to hear the stories from our planting sites and the difference we’re making in the world, even if right now it’s just a little.
It’s a start up, so of course there are growing pains, I have worked on other start-ups but none were like this one. Maybe I’m lucky and I work in a good department, but I haven’t encountered issues that are dealbreakers for me. Sometimes you will get conflicting information and projects can change quickly, but this not unheard of in retail.
We could use a better office space (in the works, I hear) and a better benefits package (think beyond health benefits), but it IS a pretty new company and growing pretty fast, we will see how it goes.

Everyday we learn more about the impact our daily actions are creating around the world. Our sales are measured in trees planted and impact created. This makes it very inspiring and exciting to be a tentree sales representative.

Everyone's opinion matters which is refreshing. I've learned, big change starts small. If someone has an idea, tentree is willing to try it and fail forward. This is one of the most rewarding things about working at tentree. It's a very entrepreneurial mindset.

The hardest part of the job is that it's a fast pace work environment that is constantly changing.  At times it can feel unorganized. This fast pace has it's pros/cons and isn't for everyone. The rapid growth / evolution creates many opportunities for internal members to learn and advance. The office is also very tight right now, but we are moving into a new one.

The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing we are creating a positive impact with like minded individuals. It's also knowing our individual actions make a big impact in our growth as the company is still fairly small.

Here's the thing, I loved my time at tentree. I grew quickly in my role, took on additional responsibility, and was fortunate to have a great leader and be rewarded for my growth. I've been really impressed with progress the entire company has made to evolve out of "start-up mode" during my time as well. I felt like the mission was lived and breathed by the team and the impact we were having really motivated me. That said, the company has gone through bouts of unstructured growth so there were times where you could feel lost. All that said, I met some of the best people I've ever worked with at tentree and having the name on my resume has opened doors I never realized. I wouldn't trade my time there for anything.

Management constantly making changes and always going back on their own decisions creating extra work and inconsistent expectations that trickles down the workforce ladder. Is upset when team members don't have enough time to correct the changes and deadlines are rarely ever met. 
Non existent career development and growth within the company. Only cares what school you graduated from. 
Was paid well below industry average doing more work than industry counterparts. When asked for better compensation was told time after time I was to "prove myself" and that "everyone is making sacrifices to work here". Many team members expected to work unpaid overtime as a way to show their commitment & loyalty to the company.

I can confidently say that our company stands as a beacon of sustainability, innovation, and ethical practices in the apparel industry. Our commitment to environmental conservation goes hand in hand with our dedication to crafting high-quality, stylish clothing.

At tentree, we're more than just a clothing brand; we're a movement toward positive change. Our "Buy One, Plant Ten" initiative has led to the planting of millions of trees worldwide, contributing significantly to reforestation efforts and combatting climate change.

Like any young and rapidly growing company, things change. It's challenging. It's exciting. I've been fortunate enough to evolve in my career at tentree and have the opportunity to learn various aspects of the apparel industry that are traditionally outside the job description for similar roles in other companies. 

For those that want to be a part of something that is genuinely impactful, both personally and professionally, I couldn't recommend tentree more. 

The best part of working here is knowing where we are heading as a company but at the same time helping pave the path to get us there. 

Everyone's role and opinion matters and it is a gratifying thing.

After working for a number of giveback brands, I'm relieved to find one that actually walks the talk. The founders are truly dedicated to helping save our planet, and that is at the forefront of every decision they make. 

The leadership team is incredibly supportive, experienced, and strategic in growing the brand and making a meaningful environmental impact. 

The culture is quick-moving, and is not right for non-movers + shakers. For those dedicated to building something incredible and getting their hands dirty in the process, you could not possibly find a better company to work for. 

I really enjoyed my time at tentree. It was a fast-paced culture that rewarded hard work and encouraged going above and beyond. The impact our work was having was also ingrained in the culture. Most of the challenges faced stemmed from being a young company - hours could be long, expectations weren't always 100% clear, and priorities could change. The company was improving on this but still has room for improvement.
