Role
Reporting to the respective Assembly Supervisor, the L1 Assembler is responsible for preparing, assembling, installing, and removing internal or external components and auxiliary devices of transformers. Responsibilities include preparing and assembling internal components, repacking and preparing units for tanking following the Vapour Phase operation, as well as retrieving, assembling, and installing external components and auxiliary devices. The L1 Assembler also assists with stripping units in preparation for final inspection and shipping, while ensuring all work is completed in accordance with applicable drawings, procedures, and quality standards under supervision and guidance.
Responsibilities
- Interpret basic drawings, blueprints, manufacturing instructions (MIs), specifications, and work assignments to complete assembly tasks.
- Retrieve, assemble, install, and connect transformer components and auxiliary devices, both internal and external.
- Prepare and assemble woodwork, insulation packages, cables, and related transformer components according to drawings and specifications.
- Perform cable cutting, taping, skinning, crimping, and pre-brazing activities as required to quality standards.
- Assemble and install conservator, tanking, cover-mounted, and auxiliary transformer components including bushings, connectors, valves, gauges, pipework, control boxes, pumps, tap gears, fiber optics, thermocouples, and related equipment.
- Repack, tighten, and prepare transformer units for tanking following the Vapour Phase process.
- Assist with reactor assembly and other manufacturing operations as assigned.
- Operate and maneuver overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment safely and accurately during assembly, movement, and positioning of transformer units and components.
- Transport assembled units to testing areas and perform skidding, jacking, loading, unloading, and shipping preparation activities.
- Disassemble units and prepare transformers and components for shipping according to shipping requirements and procedures.
- Perform welding duties as required.
- Assist with expediting activities to support production flow and operational requirements.
- Maintain and complete PCR documentation in accordance with PTI quality standards.
- Execute all work safely while following company safety procedures, Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements.
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Mechanical Aptitude
- Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, and bill of material including terms and abbreviations as required to complete work assignments is an asset
- Ability to work in both metric and imperial dimensions
- Basic mathematics knowledge. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and work in a team environment
- Ability to do rotating shifts (2 weeks Day Shift, 2 weeks Evening Shift)
