Cost Controller (Mississauga)

The Cost Controller will oversee, manage and provide leadership for the overall job/project accounting capacity for the Company. Working closely with all Sr. Management and the VP Finance to articulate accounting policies, procedures and controls. The role will require an individual that is a self-starter with a background in finance/accounting whom is able to manage budgets and create controls. They will be required to direct and manage the job/project accounting functions by establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures, as well as preparation of financial information for Sr. Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the job/project accounting operations including conducting job/project reviews, preparation of detailed analyses and job/project reporting, and related financial reports
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each division
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly job/project financial information and internal reporting to Senior management and stakeholders, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met
  • Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of job/project financial information
  • Assist and lead Budgeting and forecasting
  • Establish and monitor internal job/projects controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory and company policies and procedures
  • Work with Operations to define, measure, analyze, improve and control current processes which impact stakeholder reporting quality and influence internal operating efficiency
  • Provides advice and guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting
  • Supporting new systems or project selections and implementation from a strategic, finance, and internal control perspective
  • Hiring, training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff


Qualifications/Positional Requirements

  • Designation in CPA or equivalent (CMA, CGA)
  • 10+ years’ experience working in a finance/accounting environment
  • 5+ years’ experience in Sr. finance/accounting role (Managing a department, Managing Budgets, creating controls, etc.)
  • Able to develop, mentor and challenge/engage staff
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.), Outlook
  • Strong knowledge with ERP systems
