Job Profile: Vice President, Operations – National Wholesale
Reports to: Senior Vice President, National Wholesale
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, National Wholesale, the Vice President, Operations – National Wholesale will work closely with respective business stakeholders to continually strengthen our culture and achieve our business objectives, provide an amazing customer experience and daily model our values and blue culture, and drive our Company purpose of Live Life Well and Divisional purpose of Helping Food Businesses Succeed.

A National role responsible for ensuring sales, foodservice share and P&L targets for the Wholesale Club banner by executing centrally developed merchandising programs applying established processes and standards, by managing labour productivity and by ensuring customer satisfaction standards are met or exceeded.
Manage stores throughout the region by implementing centrally developed standards in all formats including control standards (inventory, product recalls, food safety, etc.), central services, merchandising and operational standards (hours of operation, backroom processes, customer service, maintenance, receiving, etc.). Achieve inline, promotional and seasonal inventory and shrink targets for the business.
Implement initiatives designed to increase colleague engagement, improve labour productivity and improve recruitment and retention experience. Contribute to and implement programs designed to increase employee capability across the business.
Help develop an environment of safety and trust amongst our team and our customers.
Help to develop a selling culture within the leadership ranks of the Wholesale Club banner.
Manages, evaluates, develops and implements annual operating budgets, ensuring key targets in the P&L and cost containment are met across the business. Authorize capital expenditures within established limits. Develops and establishes short- and long-term operational goals, objectives, and policies and procedures.
Execute merchandising programs and provide feedback from the business. Provide input to the National Wholesale Division Leadership Team regarding format and business unit strategy, budget, product assortment and other matters.
Monitor the competitive environment of the business unit to ensure in-depth knowledge of new competition entering the market and develop a planned response.
Liaises closely with enterprise functions to ensure collaboration in Learning and Development, Diversity and Inclusion, Real Estate, Loyalty, Digital, Legal, Government Relations, Technology, Business Enablement and Enterprise Procurement, and Data Insights and Analytics.
Recruit, manage, train, motivate and appraise direct reports; District Managers and Operational Team. This includes explicit consideration of on-the-job training needs for each direct report, arranging appropriate training, providing timely feedback, and succession planning.
Collaborate with Marketing to develop a regional marketing/community events calendar and budget; expand the company’s external relationships in order to build local company image and customer retention; support other externally focused initiatives as required.
Collaborate with Labour Relations team in the management of union relations and negotiations for the business.
Plans and develops various meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars etc focused on business growth, building relationships, customer centricity and colleague wellbeing.
Promotes an Inclusive workplace with a commitment to raising awareness, ongoing conversations, and education.
Skills, Experience & Education:
10+ years in a retail environment with a proven track record of operational & P&L success
Prior experience as a Regional or District Manager preferred
5-10 years of experience coaching, developing and managing District/Store Managers or Franchisees
Solid experience in one or more formats for the relevant region
Strong knowledge of Loblaw Operations and background in Merchandising / external retail considered an asset
Strong leadership skills with a proven capacity of successful collaboration on shared targets
Knowledge of IT system implementation and related change management
Proven ability to lead and motivate teams of different sizes and complexities working within a matrix organization
Proven ability to develop short- and long-term plans
Proven ability to manage successfully in a high-pressure environment
Excellent communicator up, down and across the enterprise
A strong understanding of the competitive landscape in order to recognize and capitalize on opportunities
Ability to gather and synthesize customer, competitor and market insight and information
An effective change agent who possesses the influencing skills needed to help the organization adopt new ways of thinking and to embrace more sophisticated business tools
Role will require high level of ability to travel (National Role)
Post-secondary education (university or professionally accredited college) or equivalent experience
