This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Bodily Injury/Casualty Claims professional looking to manage complex litigation files while mentoring others, influencing claims strategy, and joining a high-performing team that values expertise, leadership, and continuous learning.
As the Senior Claims Adjuster – Bodily Injury/Casualty, you will play a critical role in managing complex third-party Bodily Injury, Casualty, and Commercial General Liability claims while delivering fair, timely, and customer-focused claim resolutions. Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage a portfolio of complex Bodily Injury, Casualty, Automobile, Homeowners, and Commercial General Liability claims from investigation through settlement.
- Analyze policy coverage, investigate liability and damages, evaluate exposure, and negotiate equitable settlements with claimants and legal counsel.
- Direct and instruct defence counsel throughout the litigation process.
- Represent the organization during mediations, pre-trials, settlement conferences, and other dispute resolution proceedings while developing effective litigation strategies.
- Build strong working relationships with underwriting, legal counsel, brokers, vendors, and senior leadership to ensure effective claim outcomes.
- Maintain detailed and accurate claim documentation while providing timely updates and recommendations to key stakeholders.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to junior claims professionals, supporting their technical development and career growth.
- Foster a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance claims processes, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
- Stay current on evolving legislation, industry trends, and best practices while continually expanding your technical expertise.
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
- University degree, college diploma, or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience handling litigated Ontario Bodily Injury and Casualty claims.
- Demonstrated experience managing Commercial General Liability claims involving both Bodily Injury and Property Damage.
- Experience handling increasingly complex litigation files with strong negotiation and settlement expertise.
- Strong understanding of Ontario Automobile Bodily Injury, Casualty, and Commercial General Liability claims.
- Experience directing defence counsel and participating in mediations and pre-trials.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
- Multi-provincial adjusting licences and Atlantic licensing are considered assets.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to build credibility across diverse stakeholders.
- Calm, organized, and effective in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Collaborative leadership style with a passion for coaching and mentoring others.
- Self-motivated with exceptional judgment, accountability, and attention to detail.
