About this opportunity:
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Terrestrial Biologist in our Whitehorse office. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the team in the implementation of wildlife and ecology components of projects, including desktop and field-based wildlife and wildlife habitat programs. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience conducting wildlife surveys with strengths in species-specific surveys, technical writing skills, and environmental assessments with an understanding of the regulatory environment. Experience in the mining and mineral exploration sector and/or in avian biology is an asset.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Planning and completing fieldwork related to wildlife, vegetation, and wildlife habitat
- Analyzing and interpreting data and preparing technical reports, memos and other project deliverables
- Assisting with the preparation of project budgets and proposals
- Preparing and supporting our clients with project assessment (YESAA) and permitting of their projects
- Working effectively in a team environment
- Participating proactively in EDI’s health and safety program
We are looking for someone with:
- Broad knowledge of terrestrial wildlife and related disciplines (e.g., vegetation, terrestrial ecosystems)
- Expertise with one or more species at risk and/or species of regulatory concern (e.g., caribou, bats, birds) in Yukon and northern Britisch Columbia
- Experience in wildlife inventory and habitat survey methods
- Experience in data analysis and habitat modelling
- Proven record of professional report writing
- Working knowledge of western provincial and territorial (Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia) and federal regulatory requirements and processes
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and time management skills
- Capacity to conduct field work in remote locations and/or travel between offices
Job requirements include:
- A passion for your career
- An undergrad degree with 5 years of experience or Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience in a related discipline
- Terrestrial biology expertise. Experience in consulting would be an asset.
- A proven record of professional report writing and data analysis
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a R.P. Bio or as P. Biol. considered an asset
