Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS) is seeking a Behaviour Consultant to provide contract services

Objective
The Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS) is committed to supporting people with Down syndrome and their families. Our mission is to provide information and support, facilitating services and promoting inclusion through public awareness and advocacy, in collaboration with community partners. We respect and support the role of families and their choices in meeting the needs of people with Ds.

Duties / Responsibilities

EDSS Behaviour Consultants provide contract services to families, caregivers and stakeholders to support the development of self-regulation, emotional-regulation, social skills and positive behaviour at home and in the community.

Duties may include:

  • Providing consultation regarding behavioural issues that interfere with development, learning and safety
  • Completing functional behavioural assessments to identify family priorities and goals
  • Collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data
  • Creating individualized regulation and/or behaviour plans
  • Supporting caregivers to implement plans
  • Modeling and coaching caregivers on best practices and strategies
  • Monitoring goals and plans
  • Writing reports and maintaining client files
  • Enabling FSCD Specialized Services and Program Unit Funding contracts as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Enhancing family capacity through individualized and group services
  • Collaborating with other team members to develop and provide workshops, programs and resources
  • Developing and providing workshops for parents, educators and other stakeholders
  • Developing resources such as social stories, visuals, games or scripts
  • Working with volunteers and assistants

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

Degree in Psychology, Behavioural Sciences or related area, with training in cognitive behaviour therapy.

  • Experience with intervention models that support positive relationships, self-regulation and social thinking
  • A passion for learning about the strengths, learning needs and best practices for individuals with Down syndrome
  • Family-centred focus to intervention
  • Experience working with people with exceptional needs, including Ds, ADHD, ASD and Anxiety
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated organization and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Contract hours to be determined based on service demands and service provider availability.

The successful candidate must have a current clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check Certificate and an original copy of a child intervention record check.
