The Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLPA) supports the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in delivering evidence-based speech and language intervention services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. The SLPA implements therapy programs developed by the supervising SLP, documents client progress, prepares therapy materials, and collaborates with families and interdisciplinary team members to promote meaningful communication and functional skill development.
The SLPA works under the direct supervision of a registered Speech-Language Pathologist and does not independently assess, diagnose, or develop treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement individualized speech and language therapy programs developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group speech and language therapy sessions to children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
- Facilitate activities targeting expressive language, receptive language, articulation, speech clarity, social communication, play skills, and functional communication.
- Utilize evidence-based intervention strategies and therapeutic techniques as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Collect accurate therapy data and document client progress during each treatment session.
- Maintain detailed clinical documentation, session notes, and progress records in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards.
- Prepare therapy materials, visual supports, communication aids, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) resources.
- Support implementation of communication strategies across therapy sessions and daily routines.
- Collaborate with BCBAs, ABA Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members to support consistent intervention goals.
- Assist in parent education by reinforcing home practice strategies provided by the supervising SLP.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging therapy environment.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all privacy legislation, organizational policies, and professional standards.
- Report any client safety concerns, incidents, or changes in clinical status to the supervising SLP immediately.
- Perform administrative and clinical support duties related to speech and language services.
- Complete any other duties assigned by management that are reasonably related to the position.
Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
