Your Opportunity

As an Urban Planner within our Community Development team based in our London or Waterloo office, you will have the opportunity to work on projects in the public and private sectors such as new development plans, community design plans, mixed use developments, official plan reviews, public consultation and infrastructure planning.

Our planning team in Ontario Southwest consists of a group of passionate and dedicated individuals in a range of planning and development-related fields. The ideal candidate would have experience and an interest in both public and private sector work, however the position can be tailored to suit an individual with experience in a specific area of practice. As a 23,000 person interdisciplinary firm, the business opportunities within Stantec are endless. Our local Community Development team consists of over 100 engineers, technicians, and surveyors, and we have an enthusiastic planning team of 7. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our growing team.

Your Key Responsibilities

Manage the processing and approval of development applications; including Official Plan Amendments, Zoning Bylaw Amendments, Site Plan Applications, minor variances and consent applications, and Plans of Subdivisions;
Utilize your knowledge of provincial and local planning policy in the preparation and management of planning policy studies for public sector clients;
Prepare comprehensive plans and manage complex design projects;
Manage and organize public consultation programs including making recommendations of key findings to the client;
Lead marketing initiatives including strategic planning, opportunity identification, proposal pursuit and preparation, client liaison, preparation of on-line marketing content and social media monitoring;
Maintain and strengthen client relationships and play a key role in client management and satisfaction;
Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical aspects of projects for the team;
Supervise, coordinate and review the work of other professionals who assist in specific assignments;
Perform due diligence and research on projects as required;
Coordinate with clients, agencies and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals;
Travel between London and Waterloo offices and other areas for project and office coordination;
Act as a mentor to junior level planners and provide career development recommendations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

In-depth knowledge of planning policies and processes in Ontario;
Experience processing planning applications in Ontario;
Experience presenting before Planning Committees, Committees of Adjustment, and preferably the OMB/LPAT;
Highly effective in assembling and leading multi-discipline teams on complex projects;
Demonstrated ability to readily identify potential problems on a project;
Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects;
Highly effective in building and maintaining client relationships;
Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent in Planning, eligibility for membership with CIP/OPPI, and a minimum of 7 years of experience.
