Reporting to the Lead Laboratory Technologist III, the primary purpose of this position is to perform all the functions of a Laboratory Technologist I as well as provide lead direction over the Microbiology department of the clinical laboratory at the Labrador Health Centre, takes advice and direction from the Provincial Microbiologist Consultant and is responsible to the Regional Director of Diagnostic Services.

" Completed an approved and accredited Medical Laboratory Science training program;
" Registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS);
" Eligible to be registered with the Newfoundland Labrador Council of Health Professionals;
" Willing to complete the Quality Systems Certificate with the CSMLS;
" Must have 2 years working experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist I in Microbiology Department in the last 4 years;
" Must have successfully completed or be willing to undertake in a timeline set by the employer, Microbiology and other relevant courses with the CSMLS;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct.

Duties (Include but not limited to):
" Comply with legislation governing medical laboratory technology and apply these to the practice of the profession;
" Be responsible for calibration and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment;
" Monitor the availability of reagents and supplies and ordering supplies as necessary;
" Label, date, store and dispose of samples, chemicals, stains, reagents and solutions according to established procedures and protocols;
" Provides orientation, instruction and supervision to medical laboratory technology students during their clinical rotation in Microbiology;
" Registering patient data, entering physician request, entering and verifying patient result in the laboratory information system;

" Eligible for Labrador Benefits. Single Rate: $1.50/hour; Dependent Rate: $3.00/hour. This is added to your regular hourly rate.

" Eligible for Labrador Travel. In April of each year, employee will receive $911 for themselves; and $702 per each dependent.


" Successful applicant will be enrolled in the full-time Government Pension Plan; i.e. Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP).


" Successful applicant is automatically enrolled in the Group Insurances with Great West Life. This includes prescription glasses, prescription drugs, Chiropractor, Massage Therapy, etc.

" LX-29 of the NAPE-LX salary scales, $30.56 to $38.75 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance. There are six (6) steps in the pay scale. Depending on the years of experience, you could be placed at the top step of this pay scale.

Hours of Work:
" 70 hours biweekly, days, evening and weekend shifts required, in addition to standby and call back duties.
