Emterra operates four major Recycling and Waste Centers in Metro Vancouver, receiving and managing large volumes of waste while promoting recycling and the green economy. We are looking to hire a Supervisor /:Lead Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic / Earth Moving Equipment Mechanic for our United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for diagnosing and repairing facility equipment in a safe and timely manner.
In the position of Mechanic Lead Hand, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of Emterra Maintenance Equipment. The incumbent will oversee a team of apprentices and mechanics, preventative maintenance, repair quality, and safety daily. The Mechanic Lead Hand will be required to service, diagnose and complete preventative maintenance repairs to waste handling equipment (front end loaders, excavators, dozers) while working closely with the facility and maintenance team. This is a hands-on position; the Mechanic Lead Hand position would be required to be on the tools for 70% or more of his daily time. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. You will build and maintain a positive work environment and high-performance team culture to deliver superior customer service.

What will you do?
- Review and organize work according to Preventative Maintenance and manufactures recommendations.
- Repair waste handling equipment, including troubleshooting of hydraulics and electrical systems.
- Ensure that all equipment, vehicles and work areas are always following safety policies and regulations.
- Diagnose and rectify faults and address service calls and/or break downs in a timely fashion.
- Minimize equipment downtime, and ensure the fleet is ready for operations the next day.
- Certify that the fleet meets corporate appearance standards.
- Liaise with Operations Supervisors and operations team in a professional and team-oriented manner.
- Liaise with outside vendors.
- Maintain all equipment records and files with the CMMS Co-ordinator.
- Ensure that the shop and surrounding grounds are clean and organized at all times.
- Ensure that all work is performed safely, cost effectively and in a timely manner.
- Additional projects and duties as assigned.
What will you bring?
The successful applicant will be comfortable with prioritization, planning, coordination, and organization, with an ability to respond and adapt in changing, high pressure environments. This individual will be able to assess problem situations, recognize issues, and use judgment to create solutions that meet required standards.
- Red Seal Certificate in the Heavy Equipment Mechanic trade.
- 5 years previous experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
- Previous leadership experience is considered an asset.
- Valid drivers licence with air brake endorsement.
- Strong technical knowledge of waste handling equipment.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to take on new challenges and grow with experience.
- Computer knowledge and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have flexibility to work late, be available for weekend and/or holiday work when required to meet operational needs.
- Work independently.
