St. Lawrence Cruise Lines Inc. is seeking applicants for the position of Ship’s Diesel Mechanic for a Kingston-based overnight cruise ship on 4, 5, 6 and 7 night voyages to Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City. The Canadian Empress is a 64-passenger vessel.
This position is Full time, Seasonal from April to November. The minimum requirement for this position is a mechanical background. Assets for this position would be knowledge in diesel engine mechanics or marine engineering certification and experience. This position works under the onboard supervision of the Captain, as well as the Operations Department.
This position is responsible for the following:
· Management of the Engine Room
· Preventative Maintenance
· Servicing engines, gears and electrical equipment on board
· Maintenance of all things mechanical on board
· Bunkering fuel and water
Work Periods:
· Full time, Seasonal (April-November)
· Additional winter work may become available
· 8 hours per day during April fit out, November lay up
· 11+ hours per day (on average during cruise season)
· Alternating 10 to 14 night cruises on a "cruise-on, cruise-off" basis – equivalent to 40 hrs per week over the season.
Wages and Compensation:
· Salary commensurate with experience and certification
· Transportation to/from ports provided (with food allowance)
· Meals and accommodation provided while cruising
