Position: Classroom Lead - Grade 1+
L*ocation: *Calgary, AB – Copperfield
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Hourly, 35 hrs/wk
Hours of Work: Scheduled shifts between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (may include split shifts)
Reports To: Assistant Director
COMPENSATION:
Base Wage:
- Level 2: $17.00–$19.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
- Level 3: $18.00-$20.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
Wage Top-Up:
- Level 2: Eligible under the Alberta Child Care Grant Program – $5.05 per hour
- Level 3: Eligible under the Alberta Child Care Grant Program – $8.62 per hour
This is a hybrid educator-driver role. The base wage remains consistent whether performing classroom or transportation duties.
Acting Assistant Director (AAD) Premium: When formally assigned to perform Acting Assistant Director duties, an acting premium will be applied for the duration of the assignment.
Wage top-ups are not guaranteed and may change in accordance with government funding or operational requirements.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a senior hybrid role combining:
- Lead Educator (Out-of-School Care – Grades 1+)
- Child Transportation & Vehicle Safety
- Operational Support + Acting Assistant Director (when assigned)
The role ensures safety, continuity, professionalism, and operational stability across the children’s full day.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead daily classroom operations, routines, and programming in line with Alberta licensing
- Maintain a calm, structured, and emotionally safe environment
- Provide inclusive, strength-based support for all children
- Support educators to maintain ratios, supervision, and safety standards
- Ensure safe transportation in line with legislation and organizational policies
- Complete required transportation checks, headcounts, and logs
- Monitor children during transit and address safety concerns immediately
- Support staffing coverage, transitions, and daily operations as senior educator on shift
- Escalate concerns and support Acting Assistant Director duties when assigned
- Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent)
- Alberta ECE Level 2 or 3 Certification (or eligibility to obtain)
- Valid Alberta Class 4 Driver’s License OR Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with willingness to obtain Class 4
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Valid First Aid & CPR
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Child Intervention Record Check
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a licensed early learning and child care or Out-of-School Care setting
- Demonstrated experience working with Grades 1+ children
- Experience supporting children with exceptionalities, including neurodiverse learners (e.g., ADHD, ASD, sensory processing differences, behavioural support needs)
- Proven ability to implement structured routines and individualized support strategies
- Ability to work independently as a Primary or Lead Educator in a school-age environment
- Demonstrated experience operating vehicles safely and responsibly
- Proven ability to follow safety procedures, checklists, and documentation requirements
