You don't have to be aggressive to be great at collections.
You do need to be comfortable having conversations other people avoid.
At Priority Credit Management (PCM), our Credit Advisors help businesses get paid by professionally resolving overdue commercial accounts. That means asking good questions, listening, negotiating, problem-solving, following through and - yes, asking people for money.
We're looking for someone who can be firm without being disrespectful, empathetic without avoiding accountability, and independent without disappearing.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
Your Position on the Team
As a Credit Advisor, you will manage a portfolio of delinquent accounts on behalf of our clients.
Your job is to move accounts toward resolution while protecting the relationship between PCM, our clients and the people we communicate with.
You will:
- Contact account holders by phone, email and other approved methods to resolve outstanding accounts.
- Ask directly for payment and negotiate appropriate payment arrangements.
- Research accounts and use available information to determine the best next action.
- Follow promises, commitments and deadlines through to completion.
- Maintain accurate, detailed and current file notes.
- Keep clients informed when meaningful developments occur.
- Manage multiple accounts, priorities and follow-up dates independently.
- Follow applicable legislation, client instructions and PCM procedures.
- Work with teammates when a file is stuck or another perspective is needed.
- Contribute ideas that help us improve how credit and collections are done.
What Makes Someone Successful Here
We hire and work by three values:
ACCOUNTABLE
Own your work.
Do what you said you would do. Meet commitments. Speak up when you're stuck. If you make a mistake, own it, correct it and learn from it.
CARING
Have people's backs.
Treat clients, teammates and account holders with respect. Listen first. Have difficult conversations professionally. Caring does not mean avoiding accountability.
EMPOWERING
Think and solve.
Use the resources available to you. Ask good questions. Bring solutions. Learn continuously. Make confident decisions within your authority.
Together, we call this ACE.
What We're Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Are comfortable speaking with people by telephone throughout the day.
- Can confidently ask for payment and stay composed when someone says no.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Are naturally curious and good at figuring things out.
- Follow details without losing sight of the outcome.
- Can organize a changing workload and reliably follow up.
- Take feedback well and actually apply it.
- Are comfortable being measured against clear performance expectations.
- Can work independently without needing someone to continually check whether your work is getting done.
- Care about being part of a team and are willing to respectfully hold yourself and teammates accountable.
Experience in commercial collections, accounts receivable, credit, sales, negotiation, call-centre work or another high-volume customer-facing role is valuable.
Direct collections experience is an asset; your ability to communicate, think, learn and execute matters just as much.
2-3 years of collections, accounts receivable or 5+ years of customer service
A Different Kind of Flexibility
PCM genuinely believes work should fit into a full life.
We support work-from-home, flexible schedules and time away from work because we don't believe great performance requires someone constantly watching a clock.
There is another side to that flexibility:
Trust goes both ways.
Our teammates and clients must still be able to count on one another.
Flexibility at PCM works when you:
- deliver your work,
- communicate,
- manage your commitments,
- remain available when your role requires it, and
- ask for help before something becomes a problem.
If you're looking for autonomy and are comfortable owning the results that come with it, you'll probably enjoy working here.
What PCM Offers
Depending on eligibility and employment terms, PCM offers:
- Competitive base compensation
- Performance-based incentive opportunities
- Health and dental benefits
- Paid vacation and personal time
- Monday–Friday operations
- Work-from-home and flexible work arrangements
- Paid training and ongoing coaching
- Professional development opportunities
- Opportunities to grow your role as your strengths develop
- A small-team environment where your contribution is visible
- Team activities, recognition and community involvement
One More Thing: We Give Feedback
At PCM, teammates are allowed to respectfully call things when they see them.
We call this REF.
Getting REF'd isn't failure. Just like a penalty in hockey, mistakes happen. What matters is whether you listen, adjust and get back into the game.
If you want a workplace where nobody ever tells you when something isn't working, PCM probably won't be the right team.
If you value clear expectations, coaching, autonomy and the opportunity to continually get better, we would like to meet you.
Our Hiring Process
We try to keep hiring straightforward:
Application → Short Pre-Screen → Interview & Collector Tryout → References → Offer
Qualified applicants may be asked to participate in a job-related collection scenario and problem-solving exercise during the interview process.
