The Manufacturing Engineering Lead is responsible for ensuring the technical requirements for our products are accurate and complete, which ensures our products are manufacturable by our subcontractors. This role ensures the quality of the Manufacturing Engineering team meets ProSlide’s quality expectations, through guidance, mentorship, and detailed technical reviews. This role is also the primary interface between various internal and external stakeholders for New Product Introductions and for the Product Lifecycle necessary to sustain existing products, parts, and features. This includes, but is not limited to, communications with Structural Design, Product Development, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Quality Engineering, Documentation Control, and manufacturing subcontractors.

YOUR CHALLENGE:

Providing detailed technical review of the tasks assigned to the Manufacturing Engineering team.
- Coordinating and tracking tasks to other members of the Manufacturing Engineering team while ensuring the quality of those deliverables.
- Supporting members of the Manufacturing Engineering team develop their professional and technical skill sets.
- Qualifying the introduction of new manufacturing process, through collaboration with Product Development, subcontractors and third-party labs, to support the assembly and fabrication of products. This includes capturing and documenting the assembly and fabrication process being utilized to produce the given product.
- Updating CAD part and assembly drawings as required based on approved change requests, including the communications to the fabricators once drawings have been updated and released.
- Contributing to new product designs for the overall manufacturability and cost savings opportunities early in the product development cycle through DFx (Cost, Quality, Manufacturing, Assembly, Testing, etc.) principles.
- Providing technical support to the Operations organization, for the handling of non-conforming material, potential alternatives of manufacturing, and part substitutions.
- Conducting First Article Inspections as part of the New Product Introduction deliverables and source inspections as required per the project contractual requirements.
- Conducting Factory Acceptance Testing of products at subcontracted manufacturers.
- Maintaining the integrity of our product lifecycle database and part costing system, including developing new costing tools and providing guidance into the detailed features necessary to expand the databases’ capabilities.
- Overseeing the mechanical testing of fiberglass to qualify new materials and/or as surveillance of material properties across different manufacturing subcontractors.
- Supporting Supply Chain with the introduction and onboarding of new suppliers. This includes initial factory audits and contributions to supplier performance reviews.
- Troubleshooting complex manufacturing processes and quality related issues for prompt resolution. Conduct independent root cause analysis into engineering problems to develop new operating best practices, enhanced manufacturing capabilities and to support business processes.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Technologist/Technician in Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
- A combination of hands-on work experience and education will be considered in lieu of identified educational requirements.
Required Experience:
- +5 years of experience working in a similar role and environment, ideally with exposure to fiber reinforced plastic, steel, injection molding, and assembly of electro-mechanical sensors and parts.
- Ability to interpret drawings in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and electrical schematics/wiring diagrams.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a specific manufacturing discipline, to gain familiarity with international standards and industrial best practices, such as welding (AWS, EN 1090), drafting (ASME Y14.5 GD&T), composites processing (ACMA Open Mold / LRTM)
- Familiar with fabrication processes that relate to steel, fiberglass, injection molding, control systems, and theming. Also, translation of engineering
- defined assembly drawings (electrical and mechanical) into shop work instructions controlled by the subcontractor.
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing principles, change management, planning, procurement, and product development stage gate process.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
- Knowledge of PLM systems for the management of the overall product lifecycle – from concept to product obsolescence.
