Career Contacts is supporting our client, a well-established commercial construction leader, in the search for a Health & Safety Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for a junior safety professional who enjoys hands-on field work and wants to build a career in occupational health and safety within commercial construction. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager and the Health & Safety Advisor, the successful candidate will bring a minimum of 1 year of safety-related experience.

Hours: Monday - Friday
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Wage: $30 - $35 per hour (based on experience)
Location: Calgary, Alberta (on-site)

What You'll Be Responsible For:
- Assist with the implementation and administration of the Health & Safety Program
- Conduct new hire safety orientations for office and field employees
- Assist with maintaining health and safety records, forms, and training documentation
- Support site inspections by documenting observations, tracking deficiencies, and following up on corrective actions
- Maintain and update site safety boards and required safety postings
- Assist Foremen and Site Supervisors with project start-up safety documentation
- Support safety initiatives and maintain a visible safety presence
- Communicate safety information and company initiatives to employees and subcontractors
- Attend site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JOH&S meetings and provide input
- Assist with collecting incident documentation, witness statements, and supporting information following workplace incidents
- Support administration and maintenance of the COR program, including audit preparation and document organization
- Support company-wide safety training initiatives and employee safety awareness programs
- Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee participation and engagement
What You'll Bring:
- A minimum of 1 year of safety-related experience
- Experience in a construction environment considered an asset
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
- Strong interest in developing a career in occupational health and safety
- Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Calgary area
