Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Black Mental Health Support Worker to provide high-quality care and support to individuals facing mental health challenges. This role involves working closely with clients in various settings, including community and assisted living environments, to promote well-being, safety, and independence. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior care, home care, or caregiving, with a strong understanding of medical terminology and patient care principles. Duties
- Provide mental health support and emotional assistance to clients with diverse needs, including those with dementia or disabilities
- Assist with medication administration following prescribed protocols and safety guidelines
- Support clients with daily activities such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, and mobility assistance, including heavy lifting when necessary
- Monitor and document client progress, behaviors, and responses to treatment plans
- Engage clients in therapeutic activities designed to promote mental health stability and social engagement
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by assisting with light cleaning duties as required
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and case managers to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Support clients during transitions between different care settings, including hospice or assisted living facilities
Skills
- Prior experience in nursing homes, senior care, or home care environments is highly desirable
- Knowledge of dementia care, hospice care, and working with individuals with disabilities
- Ability to handle medication administration accurately and safely
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and patient care procedures
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and healthcare teams
- Physical ability for heavy lifting and assisting with mobility needs
- Compassionate attitude with a focus on patient-centered care and emotional support
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in caregiving roles involving meal preparation, cleaning, assisted living, or case management is beneficial
