There is an awkward stage in public accounting between becoming very good at managing engagements and being allowed to influence how the firm itself operates.
This role sits firmly on the other side of that line.
This Senior Manager opportunity is with an established Markham CPA firm looking for someone capable of operating across complex tax, assurance, advisory and senior client relationships while taking a meaningful role in developing both the team and the wider practice.
You’ll work closely with the Partners, but you won’t simply be waiting for one of them to tell you what happens next.

What you’ll be doing:
- Manage a portfolio of privately owned business and high-net-worth clients
- Lead complex corporate and personal tax engagements
- Advise clients on corporate reorganizations and tax planning
- Support succession, estate and shareholder planning assignments
- Work on remuneration planning, loss utilization, safe income and QSBC planning
- Oversee corporate tax compliance and more complex filings
- Manage and review audit and review engagements
- Lead engagement planning, pricing, staffing and profitability
- Act as a senior point of contact for significant client relationships
- Review work completed by Managers and other senior team members
- Coach and develop Managers, Senior Accountants and CPA students
- Work closely with Partners on complex technical and advisory assignments
- Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships
- Support business development and new client opportunities
- Contribute to improvements in workflow, automation and firm processes
- Play a meaningful role in the continued development of the practice
What they’re looking for:
- CPA or CPA designation
- 7+ years of Canadian public accounting experience
- Previous Manager or Senior Manager-level experience
- Strong Canadian corporate tax experience
- Experience with complex planning for privately owned businesses
- Corporate reorganization experience
- Succession and estate planning exposure would be highly valuable
- Experience managing audit and review engagements
- Strong knowledge of ASPE
- Experience managing significant client relationships
- Strong people leadership and staff development experience
- Commercial understanding of engagement pricing and profitability
- Interest in technology, automation and improving firm processes
- CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program would be highly regarded
- Someone interested in progressing toward Principal or Partner
- Applicants must have previous CPA firm/public accounting experience
