Are you a planning professional who gets excited about shaping communities, guiding sustainable growth, and occasionally impressing people at dinner parties with phrases like “land use framework”? Do you enjoy bringing order to complexity, making good plans even better, and helping communities turn vision into reality?
We’re looking for a dynamic
Director of Planning to help guide the future of an active and growing community in the heart of British Columbia’s beautiful South Cariboo.
The good news? You won’t be inheriting chaos. Our current Director is retiring after carefully organizing her files, tying up loose ends, and (we suspect) colour-coding at least a few things for your convenience. Even better, you’ll be stepping into a freshly updated Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw, so yes, the “rewrite everything from scratch” phase is officially someone else’s story.
If you’re ready to build on strong foundations, bring fresh ideas to a well-prepared desk, and help shape a community that’s as ambitious as it is welcoming, we’d love to hear from you.
Flexible Work Arrangement
We recognize that experienced planning professionals are looking for flexibility in how they work. While this position may be filled as a full-time role, we are also open to considering reduced work hours or a part-time arrangement for the right candidate. If you're seeking a flexible schedule while continuing to make a meaningful impact, we'd be pleased to discuss options with you.
Come join our team in the heart of the Cariboo!
Who We Are
We are a proud, service-focused community with a big heart and unmistakable small-town charm, located in the South Cariboo. We have long served as a regional hub while still holding onto the friendly, welcoming spirit that defines us. 100 Mile House is a place where neighbours know each other, community matters, and lifestyle comes first.
Here, outdoor recreation is part of everyday life—whether it’s trails, lakes, camping, snowmobiling, or simply stepping outside to wide-open spaces. We offer affordable housing, strong small business support, and a growing entrepreneurial spirit that makes it easier for people to put down roots and build a future. Add in a high quality of life, and you’ll find a community that truly delivers.
Simply put, opportunity meets lifestyle here, and 100 Mile House is a place to call home.
The Opportunity
As Director of Planning, you will play a key leadership role in shaping how our community grows and evolves. You’ll work closely with Council, staff, developers, businesses, and residents to support thoughtful planning, sustainable development, and long-term community success.
Along the way, you’ll also find yourself fielding a healthy mix of ambitious visions, creative “what if we just…” ideas, and the occasional proposal that begins with “this might sound a bit out there, but hear me out…” You’ll need diplomacy, humour, and a steady hand for the wonderfully diverse cast of characters who are deeply invested in how our community evolves—each with their own unique (and sometimes very passionate) perspective.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact in a community that values good planning, practical solutions, and a collaborative approach to growth.
