Job Summary
Mincon Canada is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Machine Operator (Machinist Apprentice). This is a registered apprenticeship opportunity. The successful candidate will work toward General Machinist (429A) certification through a combination of on-the-job training and formal in-school education. As apprenticeship milestones are achieved, wage progression applies according to Mincon Canada's apprenticeship wage schedule.
Working under the guidance of experienced machinists and production leaders, the successful candidate will receive structured on-the-job training in CNC and conventional machining, quality inspection, blueprint reading, machine setup, and machining best practices. This role provides a pathway toward certification as a General Machinist and long-term career opportunities within Mincon Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Assist machinists with machine preparation, tooling changes, and material handling.
- Operate basic shop equipment and machinery under supervision.
- Prepare parts for machining by cleaning, staging, deburring, or performing other production support tasks.
- Learn proper use of precision measuring tools and assist with quality inspections.
- Follow work instructions, drawings, and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support production requirements by assisting with machining, assembly, and general manufacturing activities.
- Maintain accurate production, inspection, and setup documentation.
- Follow all health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Participate in apprenticeship training, mentorship, and skills development activities required for progression in the General Machinist (429A) trade.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn, ask questions, and develop skills required for advancement in the General Machinist (429A) trade.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in pursuing a career in machining and skilled trades.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Basic math skills.
- Manufacturing or shop experience is an asset but not required.
- Eligible to register as a General Machinist (429A) apprentice in Ontario or willing to do so upon hire.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Mandatory PPE: steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, uniform, and gloves (as needed).
- This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials weighing up to 60 lbs (27 kg), with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and fumes (safety controls provided).
Schedule:
- Full-time (Day/Afternoon/Rotating Shifts; 10 hours)
- Monday to Thursday (weekends or overtime as needed)
Compensation:
- Starting wage is $21.00 per hour
- Structured wage progression based on apprenticeship milestones, including completion of in-school training and required trade hours.
