French & English Teacher – Part-Time
Locations: Best Brains Central Parkway and Best Brains Grand Park, Mississauga
We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and dedicated teacher who is proficient in French and English to teach language and literacy skills to young learners.
The ideal candidate should be able to help children develop strong foundations in:
- French vocabulary development and conversational confidence
- French grammar, sentence structure, and basic writing
- French reading fluency, pronunciation, and listening comprehension
- Core English reading, comprehension, and grammar
- English vocabulary expansion, spelling, and writing mechanics
- Supporting students enrolled in French Immersion or Core French programs
The teacher should be comfortable delivering lessons to small groups and adapting strategies for different learning paces. This position may also include afternoon summer camp responsibilities involving student supervision and participation in academic and enrichment activities.
Responsibilities
- Teach French and English to students approximately 5–12 years of age (including French Immersion and Core French students)
- Deliver structured, engaging lessons that build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in both languages
- Guide students through French pronunciation, grammar rules, vocabulary retention, and conversational practice
- Support students in developing English reading comprehension, critical thinking, spelling, and composition skills
- Identify learning gaps and provide targeted support to help students excel academically in school
- Teach students in small groups of approximately 4–5
- Prepare students for classwork, homework, and weekly skill progression
- Grade student work promptly and provide encouraging, constructive feedback
- Record and update student attendance and progress in the center’s online portal after every class
- Communicate student progress, milestones, and concerns to the Center Manager
- Provide parents with clear, professional feedback and updates when required
- Maintain a positive, patient, structured, and motivating classroom environment
- Adapt teaching methods to support varying proficiency levels and learning speeds
- Attend teacher meetings, orientations, and training sessions as required
- Assist with afternoon summer camp activities when scheduled, supervising safe transitions between lessons, lunch, breaks, and camp games
- Promote positive behavior, teamwork, and student safety at all times
Qualifications
- High proficiency/fluency in both French and English (bilingual French/English strongly preferred)
- Clear pronunciation, strong oral communication, and solid written skills in both languages
- Strong understanding of French grammar, phonetics, and literacy strategies suitable for elementary and middle school learners
- Familiarity with the Ontario French curriculum (Core French and French Immersion) is an asset
- Teaching degree (OCT), French Studies degree/diploma, or Early Childhood Education (ECE) background preferred
- Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, daycare, Montessori, afterschool programs, or summer camps is an asset
- Passion for teaching and fostering language confidence in young learners
- Patient, encouraging, dynamic, and professional demeanor
- Strong classroom management and small-group facilitation skills
- Comfortable using online portals, Google Workspace/Sheets, and basic computer applications
- Reliable, punctual, organized, and detail-oriented
