About VAM:
Founded in 1969, the Vancouver Academy of Music (VAM) is a non-profit institution that has been spreading a love of learning and musical excellence for generations of aspiring musicians. Minutes away from downtown, VAM is housed in a spacious facility with teaching studios, large classrooms, two performance halls, and the inspiring scenic backdrop of Vanier Park.
In addition to private lessons and class instruction, VAM students have the opportunity to engage with world-renowned visiting artists in masterclasses, exchange with national and international partners, and participate in numerous performance and competition opportunities. VAM’s fundamental purpose is to explore the transformative power of music through fostering a learning environment for all ages and abilities led by a team of devoted faculty with strong professional backgrounds.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Community Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening VAM's presence and relationships within the community while supporting the organization's contributed revenue goals. This role builds and maintains partnerships with local groups, educational institutions, and community stakeholders to increase public participation in VAM's programs, while also leading the planning and execution of community events, workshops, and volunteer appreciation initiatives. This is a part-time, in-person role with a schedule of Tuesday-Thursday, 10:00-4:00pm.
Responsibilities:
-Community Outreach: developing relationships with local groups, educational institutions, and stakeholders to increase public participation.
-Event Coordination: planning and executing community events, workshops, and volunteer appreciation initiatives.
-Volunteer Management: overseeing the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and retention of volunteers across various programs.
-Administration: Tracking volunteer metrics/rewards, accurately inputting and maintaining volunteer records and Community Partner initiatives in Donor Perfect, and drafting communications for effective community engagement.
-Other duties as assigned that support revenue generation for VAM.
Qualifications
-1-2 years of experience in community outreach, volunteer management, event coordination, or a related nonprofit role
-Experience recruiting, onboarding, and managing volunteers, with a track record of building strong volunteer retention
-Comfort using donor or volunteer management databases (DonorPerfect experience an asset); attention to accuracy when maintaining records
-Strong event planning and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and initiatives simultaneously
-Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience developing partnerships with community groups, schools, or other stakeholders
-Strong written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, engaging outreach and volunteer communications
-A proactive, organized approach with the ability to track metrics and report on outreach and volunteer program outcomes
-Comfortable working evenings/weekends as needed to support events and volunteer initiatives
-A collaborative, community-minded approach and genuine interest in supporting VAM's mission
-Passion for or connection to music education and the arts considered an asset
Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
