Facilities Assistant
Salary: $47,556 to $56,292 per year
Location: Fairview
Start Date: August 6, 2026
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalency
- Standard First Aid Certificate
- A valid class 5 driver’s license
- A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencement
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
Assets:
- Completion of Chain Saw Operators’ Course
- Knowledge of College mandate and mission statement
- Knowledge of College campus use policies and procedures
- Experience working with public, understanding of professional conduct and appearance
Nature and Scope of Work:
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, Maintenance & Operations, the Facilities Assistant supports the daily operation and upkeep of Northern Lakes College campuses and grounds. The role includes assisting with facility access, event set-up, grounds maintenance, and basic repairs to ensure safe, clean, and functional environments. The position works both independently and with others, often in remote settings, and contributes to maintaining College facilities and supporting students, staff, and community users. The position may require frequent bending, climbing, and manual handling of heavy objects
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facility Access, Event Support, and General Operations
- Checking in and out of user groups
- Ensuring that the campus buildings are left clean and in good repair
- Event set-up and take-down
- Furniture assembly, disassembly, and relocation
- Drive College vehicles as required
Grounds, Exterior, and Equipment Maintenance
- Perform basic landscaping duties and operation of grounds using lawn mower and other equipment
- Perform snow removal at sites and operation of snow removal equipment
- Maintain fuel and water levels in various equipment and machinery
- Belt and filter changes on associated machinery and equipment
Maintenance Assistance and Repairs
- Assist maintenance service workers and trades personnel in the performance of their related duties and tasks
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks as required
Skills/Knowledge:
- Operation of basic small grounds equipment and snow removal equipment
- Ability to work alone in a remote setting
- Basic grounds maintenance experience
