Position Overview
'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counsellor (0.4 FTE) to support students across Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our school is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. This position is ideal for someone who values trauma-informed practices and brings an Indigenous perspective to supporting student well-being.
Key Responsibilities

Provide individual and small-group counselling to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural needs
- Deliver developmentally appropriate classroom lessons on topics such as emotional regulation, resilience, peer relationships, and mental health awareness
- Support students with academic planning, goal setting, and key transitions
- Apply trauma-informed practices to create safe, predictable, and supportive environments for all learners
- Incorporate and respect Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing in counselling approaches, and support Indigenous student success and well-being
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners, including Indigenous communities where appropriate
- Respond to student crises and coordinate referrals to external agencies when needed
- Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality standards
Qualifications

Master’s degree in Counselling
- Eligibility for certification or registration as a School Counsellor in British Columbia
- Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or clinical setting
- Training or demonstrated experience in trauma-informed practice
- Knowledge of Indigenous perspectives in education and a commitment to ongoing learning in this area
